I have to say, I was thinking Dean was just a joke until the last couple of weeks, but I don’t mind that he came in second. I wouldn’t have been surprised if he’d gotten a couple more votes from old Lairo folks. He did make some persuasive points, but in truth he didn’t have the challenge game to back up any attack on Tommy in that regard. When the challenges were still by team, Tommy was clearly a much bigger factor than Dean was. Also, Dean thinking for like 10 minutes before deciding if there were lines he wouldn’t cross was hilarious, and did him no favors. Tommy convincing Noura to take him and have Dean make fire was his clincher. Being able to convince your fellow player to do something for you that is clearly not great for their game is key to playing a strong game and not getting ganged up on at the end. Also, I loved the Noura/Dean interaction. It’s seemed like Noura had a bit of a crush on Dean for a few weeks now. I’d totally watch a sitcom where Noura and Dan are an on-again/off-again couple, with Noura’s spastic energy constantly colliding with Dean’s DK chillin’. Anyway, I’m glad Tommy won. He’s been my favorite all along.

I wish they had more time to talk to the players during the reunion show. Maybe Survivor needs to start doing Bravo-style reunion shows that span several days and have multiple parts. I want to know so much more about what players were thinking and how various things went down. The biggest example is that I wanted to know why Dean decided to save Tommy and what was happening around that decision. I also would have liked to hear more from Elizabeth and Missy about the Dan situation, but they seemed interested in discussing that only in a very specific way and context.

I thought Dean deserved the win in the end. Tommy won without any immunity idols, immunity wins, advantages, going to fire, or going to island of the idols. He won based solely on his social game. I don’t like that. I think you need to be an all-around player to win the game. Dean had that way more than Tommy. Another season where the theme was a total waste.

Entertainment Weekly called the last two seasons of Survivor the worst in the shows history as it put it on the list of one of the worst shows of 2019. I couldn’t agree more!! I’ve been saying the same thing on these boards. Here is what they said:

    ‘Survivor’ (CBS)
“It’s easy to be caught up in the ugliness of the current season, in which production took a player accused of unwanted touching on the very first night of the game and managed, by failing to sanction him at all, to turn it into a season of growing unpleasantness even before that player had to be ejected for unrevealed and unrelated reasons. It’s been awful. But let’s not forget that the spring season was also dismal, as the core “Edge of Extinction” twist allowed the eventual winner to be a castaway who played only 12 days of actual Survivor, a structural oddity that pretty much violated anything the game has ever been about. In a run of astonishing longevity and unparalleled quality, Survivor has had down seasons and the occasional crappy winner, but this is the worst two-season year the show has ever had. Based on rumors about a favorite-studded 40th installment in the spring, Survivor at least has a shot at a big comeback. It needs one.”

Edge of Extinction was enough to drag down any season it touches. Absolutely baffling that they are bringing this back for next season.
