Did anyone get the sense that the Bachelorette producers were possibly editing Marquel’s final episode in thoughts to make him, potentially, the first black bachelor? The show has gotten heat for not having a more diverse cast. Even their first Latino bachelor had sandy blond hair!
I just felt that they edited Marquel’s final episode very carefully. They’ve never discussed race to such a degree on the show and the clips of him crying added sympathy to his character. I’m not sure if they have made a decision, but it seemed to me they wanted to make the audience as sympathetic as possible for him in order to be cheering him on in the future bachelor on his new quest for love. They might at least be putting the feelers out there to see if the audience responded the way they wanted them to.June 22, 2014 at 4:42 pm #553979
Wow, didn’t know there was a thread for this. I would have loved to have one after Juan Pablo’s reunion and how big of a bitch Chris Harrison was towards him and how unfairly his lack of “I Love You” was treated. Juan Pablo was a dick for the most part, but he was unfairly treated during that reunion show. People definitely forgot what show they were on during that episode.
I do think that Marquel was carefully edited, but please, this show will never have a black Bachelor. I think it was more to dedicate some minutes to race issues since they’re so heavily criticized for it. My feeling is that the producers believe the season would turn into one of those awful VH1 shows with Flavor Flav or Bad Girls Club or something. Maybe they’re just racist idiots who actually believe all black women will behave like that and you can’t have that on ABC.
Marquel overreacted like crazy to the whole situation by the way. Parts of this story was sooo typical for The Bachelorette, pure speculation from the guys being gossip bitches to eliminate one another. Who even says “blackies”? And who wouldn’t be surprised that Andi actually picked two black guys for that many episodes considering what show we’re talking about? Then he started crying…please…June 23, 2014 at 1:04 pm #553980
Benito I agree about Chris Harrison. I think he came across worse that Juan Pablo did, at least in my eyes! I lost all respect for him when I saw that show. Chris Harrison is a GRADE A D-bag.
The women of the View were already launching a “Marquel for the next Bachelor” appeal to quite a bit of applause from the audience, so who knows? It has to happen sometime. Let’s be honest, African-Americans have never been more than an ornament on this show! It’s been how many seasons and there hasn’t even been a legitimate frontrunner. This show is very white-washed and they are starting to feel the heat.June 23, 2014 at 5:59 pm #553981
I’ll just go right ahead and discuss it….In my office we need background noise so we watch a lot of these stupid reality shows and we’ve gone through 4 seasons of The Bachelorette and The Bachelor in about 3 months…
For me, the biggest thing about Harrison during that reunion was how insanely upset he was and his eyes were soooo shooting lasers to Juan Pablo’s head because somehow, Chris couldn’t believe he didn’t say I love You to Nikki. Yes, Chris Harrison, the guy who hosted a season when a guy didn’t propose to either girl and then that same guy came back to the show for another season and ended up breaking up with the girl he chose. Chris Harrison, who saw Desiree and Ashley basically pick guys because the ones they wanted weren’t around anymore (Brooks and Bentley) and if they ended up happy and married and pregnant with the winning guy is another story, but during the season, it made no sense for them to end up with any other guy period. Those two should’ve done what Juan Pablo did, date and see where it goes as both of them were very much still into their Brooks and Bentley drama.
Who says Juan Pablo didn’t end up with Nikki just because it’s a freaking tv show and he had to pick somebody since Andi and the opera singer left when it was soooo obvious those were the ones he wanted. Is he supposed to say I Love You “just because”?
And then he got even more upset when Nikki said Juan Pablo hadn’t said I love You since the show ended. Are you kidding me? Isn’t this show supposed to demand these two people not see each other from the last filming day all the way up to the reunion? How do you say I love You when you don’t even get to see that person?
Of course this has a lot of fake and scripted elements to it but if you are dumb enough to think it’s all true, and apparently Chris Harrison does, how the hell can he be so upset like that? Juan Pablo looked like he was doing the right thing which pretty much eliminated a lot of the shame (I’m Venezuelan too) becuase of the way he acted. I’m not saying I believe this show, but at least he made sense.
There. I finally got to write that somewhere. I only have one person in the world to discuss this. Can’t believe I actually wasted time getting into The Bachelor/Bachelorette after all these years of avoiding them.
