I started watching last season, and I’ll be back for this one too. I haven’t seen Christina before, so I’ll have to wait and see if she’s any good. I imagine she is though, so I’m excited.

hopefully this season brings more excellent singers. i have only started watching it properly from season 4, so i have only seen 1 season of christina. but she definitely brings something different from gwen stefani. i read she used to be more direct on other contestants and doesn’t really sugarcoated it if she doesn’t like it but she has toned down, prob cos there are people who don’t like her when she do that. although they are some who says that the judges seems too nice and christina bring in a dose of reality. anyway, can’t wait.

Honey, Christina Aguilera is looking amazing this season.  She is killing it as a coach.

The blind auditions end and battle rounds begin tonight. The four coaches complete their teams of 12; musicians Ellie Goulding, Meghan
Trainor, Nick Jonas, and Lionel Richie help prepare for the battle
rounds, in which the strongest competitors face off.

How the hell is Koryn still in?! She sounds like she’s crying everytime she tries to sing or passing a kidney stone. I have no idea why Hannah Kirby is pinned up to be eliminated. She is outstanding and my personal favorite. Adam did a horrible job picking his final contenders they all are pretty boring and it shows with only 2 people left (that might change soon). Sawyer and Meghan are safe they will likely be the winner one or the other with Kimbery as a dark horse

I am enjoying this season much more than the recent ones — the judges are blending very well, the talent is staggering, and I actually am invested in and rooting for a number of contestants. Last year, I couldn’t say the same and didn’t have an emotional stake in anyone until the finale. This year, I’m rooting hard for Hannah, Kimberly, and Meghan, and I also really enjoy Sawyer, India and Koryn. Personally, in regards to last night’s elimination, I was glad to see Rob go. He was all vocal acrobatics with no substance, taking simple melodies and slaughtering them beyond recognition. I appreciate flair and going all out when it’s a supplement, but not the full product. And Deanna….yeah, idk how she got this far.

Joshua is a good singer when given the right song, but his attempts at modern “folk” tunes have been only okay (I personally did not like the arrangment on “Budapest” at all, and Joshua doesn’t have the proper range to handle “Hold Back the River”). He’s a good singer when given the right material and despite what the coaches may say, Adam is very hit or miss as a song picker and his contestants suffer as a result (I mean, was he joking with those two songs he picked for Deanna?). Regardless, I like Joshua but I feel I haven’t seen his full potential or his breakout moment yet and that needs to come soon because others have already had theirs, and they’re leaving him in the dust. The same goes for Corey, who I initially bet big on after a great Knockout rounds performance, but he has not lived up to that. Song choice isn’t entirely to blame here, and Corey has a great, unique tone. Unfortunately, he’s not connecting like he should. I think he could surprise and stick around longer than expected based upon the fact that he has the “country vote,” which should not be discredited for a second on this show (Craig Wayne Boyd, anyone?). Still, that can only run on for so long before it runs out.

India is an interesting contestant in that she is a very good vocalist, but she hasn’t had a song that has been a home run. For example, her Whitney Houston song this week had a few moments with wonky notes and failed runs that were matched with impeccable high notes and well-executed flexing of her range. If she has a big moment next week, she can run all the way until the end. But if she doesn’t, she’s going to start to be overshadowed by bigger and better singers. I have had a very complicated relationship with Koryn. I hated her cover of “How Great Thou Art,” liked “Stronger,” and loved “Make It Rain.” That momentum is going to help her, although there is still something about that husky part of her voice that I don’t like and doesn’t feel natural. I can still appreciate song choices like “Make It Rain” for her tone, but I’m not fully sold on her voice. Still, I think she’s a strong singer and maybe my views on her will change. Sawyer is extremely popular and I think he’s already going to be in the finale. Sometimes I’m not always on board with the contestant everyone adores, and that’s not to say I don’t like Sawyer, but he’s not my favorite. I do think the rasp and grit in his voice is beyond for a sixteen year old and Pharrell has been making smart song choices with him. I’ve enjoyed every performance of his so far. Maybe it’s the hair…

That brings me to my three favorite contestants. Hannah is my wildcard this season and I’m glad she’s got America on her side for right now. She’s unique, her stage presence is awesome, she flows against the tide. She’s definitely not the best singer, but she’s one of the best entertainers in the crop. She puts everything into her performances and I so admire that. I know that it’s likely she won’t make it to the finale, but I’m rooting for her in the meantime. Meghan is such a fantastic vocalist that you sometimes forget the horsepower she has when she goes for it. She can sing just about anything, honestly, and I’d want to hear it. I said the other day that I would be okay with hearing her try an Adele song and that’s how you know I have confidence in a contestant. Finally, Kimberly has really come out of nowhere for me in the live rounds to be one of my favorites. I didn’t really take much notice of her beforehand, but then “House of the Rising Sun” happened. Even this week, going first, she managed to overshadow everyone. What a unique, crazy tone that can bend, twist and turn any which way. Her stage presence might be the best of all the contenders. I really like her and every week I’m excited to see what she’s going to do.

All of that being said (and if you’re skimming, here’s the most important part I guess), here are my power rankings heading into the top eight week:

    8. Joshua
    7. Corey
    6. India
    5. Hannah
    4. Koryn
    3. Meghan
    2. Kimberly
    1. Sawyer

I think the producers may have had a small hand in it honestly. I think that even if Rob got more votes, they wouldn’t have wanted team Adam to be totally wiped out after they already announced that they were bringing back Usher to help his team. I think the right two went home, but I think that there’s no way that he would have actually lost both team members.

I still can’t believe nobody from this show is a star. Considering the level of these performances from the artists themselves to the production, I don’t understand what’s going on behind the scenes that makes this show such a failiure with their artists after they win or after they leave the show. Kimberly, Hannah, Sawyer, the girl who sang It Will Rain, and Meghan did an amazing job this week. Kimberly did it twice, she was great in the Elton John medley too.

And seriously, the country vote is the most ridiculous thing ever. They should understand that Clark Kent Boyd, or whatever his name is, is just awful and let him go. Not keep voting for him just because Carson can’t stop pimping him as “the only country artist in the competition”.

Finally, congrats to the most “you’re fired” worthy stylist in all of television, Christina actually looked good this week.

They may have bought him another week but I really am struggling to find good things to say sometimes about his performances. The energy/stage presence is there. The voice is there. The song choices are killing me.

I agree with you there. I personally love both Budapest and America, and was excited to hear him sing them, but then there was something missing both times. Then this week was just another level of wrong choice. I think Adam is trying his best, but just isn’t connecting with his sensibilities. I’ve felt like Bob Dylan would be an obvious choice for him, but it could be wrong too. Won’t back down was good enough to make me pick him from what were clearly the bottom three for me. If he wants to stay around, he needs to be perfect this week, but I’ve basically already written him off.
