    Episode Title: “You’re So Fresh!”

Synopsis: Grammy-winning recording artist and talk-show host Kelly Clarkson drops into the “Top Chef” kitchen for a Quickfire challenge based on her upcoming movie “Trolls: World Tour,” where the chefs are tasked with combining colorful ingredients from six different musical lands to make one delicious fish; another contestant is eliminated from the competition.

Well that was an easy call on elimination based on her competition.

Nice win for Melissa! I thought Gregory might have had the edge since the guest judge loved his grilled carrots so much. The blue team had the better progressive menu, so good on them. Malarkey was kinda messy throwing Lee Ann under the bus like that, but whatever. Lisa’s brussel sprouts dish looked awful, and apparently it wasn’t cooked the best it could have been either. But she made it through “LCK” over Joe Sasto, which makes me sad. Nice elimination challenge with the vegetarian menu only. Kelly Clarkson was a lot of fun in the Quickfire. Too bad for Gregory (and Nini) that no red carpet premiere will ever happen for this movie. All of the chefs racing through Santa Monica Farmers Market without a care in the world seems so … quaint now.

Episode Title: “Bring Your Loved One to Work”

Synopsis: The remaining chefs try to reproduce what their loved one is eating in the Quickfire challenge; for the elimination challenge, they need to produce a signature product for a food festival; another contestant is eliminated from the competition.

Kinda surprised that Jennifer was eliminated. The editing looked like a clear elimination for either Malarkey (who was given quite the dick edit here with his ratings of strongest/weakest competitors list and how he treated his wife) and Stephanie (she’s been in the bottom before). Nice win for Gregory! Jen didn’t survive LCK to Lisa, and there is a twist coming in LCK (I won’t reveal it here)! I liked seeing the loved ones help the chefs in both the Quickfire and elimination challenges. I’d be more than happy to buy some of those cooking sauces featured, especially now.

    Episode Title: “Get Your Phil”

Synopsis: Padma gets a real rise out of the remaining chefs when she tasks them to make a Quickfire dish without any All-Purpose flour. Instead, chefs must work with alternative flours from Blue Corn and Buckwheat to Coconut and Hazelnut. James Beard Award-Winning Chef Chris Bianco serves as the guest judge for the Quickfire Challenge. A team elimination challenge leaves the chefs reeling. Another contestant is eliminated from the completion.

Eventful episode! Nice challenge with the flavor profile pairings. The shady editing of the episode would have led you to believe that Lee Anne & Brian M. were in the bottom for their team discord, so of course they end up close to winning. Another win for frontrunners Melissa and Kevin. Looks like a final four of Gregory, Melissa, Kevin, and Brian V.? Barring any major upsets, that would be a fine list of contenders. Then two episodes of “Last Chance Kitchen” with the very stunty wrench of bringing back TWO ousted chefs back to the show this season. Karen won against Lisa and Nini, and then won again against Nini. She’s back in the game, and now Nini is fighting through “LCK”! Something different, I guess. The drama of team challenges lol.

    Episode Title: “Pitch Perfect”

Synopsis: The remaining chefs are challenged to a taco throwdown for Danny Trejo; for the Quickfire challenge, the only sharp tool they can use is a machete; for the elimination challenge, the only way to make it to Restaurant Wars is to survive this week’s qualifying challenge.

Really liked the pitch concept for getting into Restaurant Wars and making that into an elimination challenge. It’ll be curious to see how Gregory will dictate to his team how to make Haitian food that they’re completely unaware of how to make. Kevin’s concept is much more “user-friendly,” for lack of a better term. Sad to see Eric go, but the judges did not like his food whatsoever despite loving the overall concept. He didn’t make it in “LCK” either, but Karen is back in again mid-season. Sending back two ousted chefs to the main competition is a novel concept. I wouldn’t mind seeing this happen in future regular seasons, if the pool of chefs is worth that.

Excellent Restaurant Wars! It was clear Editing 101 that the “dream team” with all the past winners would fail under their collective weight, and the underdogs would rally to victory. Do better, Bravo! Admirable of Kevin to go down with the ship in the elimination. He was far too ambitious and tried to execute too many dishes, which then compromised quality control and tied up tables from turning in the front of the house. Karen was probably up to go home next for that plus her average dishes she had to leave behind for others to complete. Sad since I would have easily picked “The Country Kitchen” to dine at over “Kann,” but hats off to Gregory and co. for executing a difficult yet personal vision to fruition! Now onto “Last Chance Kitchen”!
