I’d like that because that would keep Serena at #1 and give her a legit shot at passing Evert for most weeks at #1 this year. At the same time, Keys better hope her leg is better because Serena will exploit that big time.

Despite the early upsets and supposed upsets that really weren’t upsets we ended up with a very predictable final four.

I appreciate Maria’s fight in the second set. But you are not gonna beat Serena in a major final serving under 40% first serves, especially when Serena is going on a tear on her own serve. It was a good Aussie Open for Maria. And congrats to the GOAT. There may be things about Serena that irk me (mainly that she’s beaten Maria 1,000 times in a row), but I respect the hell out of her game and her commitment to the sport.

I’m rooting for Murray in the Men’s final. I’m pretty indifferent towards Murray as a player, though I do have a major crush on him as a person. I just don’t want Novak getting close to double digit majors yet.

Bringing it back to my boy Nadal. With the exception of the third set against Tomas that was a pretty pathetic match. His tactic of standing so far back even on second serve was such a huge mistake. By the time he altered his return stance it was too late. He needs to recover and get some good wins over these next two months or his career on is shaky ground.

    Go Serena!!!!!!

    Next stop Paris

Same can be said for Novak.  His quest for Paris will be an interesting spring storyline.

All in all a good start to the start of the year. The number 1s performed, some interesting side stories, and quality tennis. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out through the American hard court swing and the clay season.

I am interested to see particularly how Nadal and Federer play for the next part of the year. Nadal is always a bit hit and miss, but I can imagine him having a lot of success in the upcoming clay court season. This is always the Slam that I watch the least, just because of how difficult the time zone transition is, but I saw almost all the matches from the quarter finals onward, which were all pretty high quality.

Can’t say the men’s final was “high quality” beyond the first two sets. Murray just imploded. In general the Novak-Andy matches don’t tend to do much for me, because they both get caught up in “I can defense better than you” style of play when facing each other. Congrats to Novak. However, I hope that’s the final major championship he’ll be holding this year.
