ReplySeptember 19, 2011 at 1:37 pm #223319Is Main Title Theme Music still going to be a category in 2012?
They had announced it would be eliminated in favor of a Music Composition for Nonfiction Programming category, but they definitively decided on keeping Main Title Theme Music. I think the other category will also be added.

Strike Back (Cinemax)December 16, 2011 at 12:54 pm #223325Two years ago, Parks and Recreation submitted and got nominated (after forgetting to submit the year before), even though it was in its second season. Benito Delicias wondered out loud why it was eligible, a bunch of us discussed it (we figured that it just slipped in and no one noticed or cared) and Rob looked into it with the academy. They revoked its nomination, bringing Parks and Recreation‘s nomination total for 2010 down to just one, even after the media had done interviews with the theme music composer on getting a nomination (“It’s an absolute thrill and honor to be nominated for doing something I

I still can’t live with this. The worst part of this post is that I had no clue about that interview with the nominated composer until now, so now I REALLY hate the moment when I decided to speak up. The real worst part is that it was a worthy nominee, the theme song is great.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 16, 2011 at 1:40 pm #223328As for this year…or as for the ones I remember…
The standout for me has been American Horror Story, terrible show, but that design is excellent. The lenght is an issue for me, but whatever, at least they did something. I don’t like the theme though.
The Homeland titles are awful. I hate that the titles for BOSS are so good and then they ruin it with the real title for “Boss” in that font. I like New Girl a lot, the theme is fun but anybody who even has a hint of hate towards Zooey Deschanel will automatically write it off. The title is great though and if Ugly Betty got nominated then this should too.
Happily Divorced is as Fran Drescher-like as an opening title and theme can be. The title is good, the theme is lame but at the same time it’s sort of fun and catchy.
Up All Night could’ve done something more fun with those titles, like the actors name in huge letters across the screen during those images or something, I’d love to do my own titles for this show one of these days, the title card is fine, but for a nomination, just no. The theme however is perfect, I really love this one.
I think the rules have a cut off time and it’s 15 seconds, I don’t think 2 Broke Girls or Hart of Dixie qualify. Either way, they’re not worthy, even though I like the ones for 2 Broke Girls.
And finally, Hell on Wheels is way too AMC, too Walking Dead. And The X Factor is exactly the same as American Idol but in red, I hate that title sequence and theme.
I need to take a look at those links…great thread by the way…
ReplyCopy URLDecember 16, 2011 at 3:41 pm #223330I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thinks this: Homeland is the best new show of the year…but I hate the opening credits. I always skip through them (and I rarely do that with other shows). It’s long. It’s messy. Sorta cliche.
But…it’ll probably get nominated anyway. Erg.
I think right now New Girl has the best one. I love both the song and the design. It’s cute and quirky and adorkable and wah wah wah.
