    ATYPICAL (C+)
    Antartica- B- (MVP- Keir Gilchrist)
A Human Female- C (MVP- Keir Gilchrist)
Julia Says- B- (MVP- Brigette Lundy- Paine)
A Nice Neutral Smell- C- (MVP- Keir Gilchrist)
That’s My Sweatshirt- B- (MVP- Keir Gilchrist)
The D-Train to Bone Town- B- (Brigette Lundy- Paine)
I Lost My Poor Meatball- B (MVP- Jenna Boyd)
The Silencing Properties of Snow- B+ (MVP- Keir Gilchrist)
    Season MVP: Keir Gilchrist
    Honorable mention: Brigette Lundy- Paine
    Breakthrough Performer: Keir Gilchrist
Best Episode(s): “The Silencing Properties of Snow”
My thoughts: Atypical is not a special show, but it is lead by a special performance. Gilchrist is excellent in the lead role and Lundy-Paine is excellent as his sister as well. Jennifer Jason Leigh gave a fine performance but her character was very annoying. One thing I do appreciate about the show isi that they gave work to so many greta, but underrecognized TV actors. The music on the show was also great. Amy Okuda was also very good. Jennifer Jason Leigh had a borderline role, but my guess is that she will submit in lead actress at awards.

    THE CARMICHAEL SHOW (A-)
Yes Means Yes- A (MVP: Lil’ Rel Howery)
Support the troops- B- (MVP: David Allen Grier)
Grandma Francis- A (MVP: David Allen Grier)
Lesbian Wedding- B+ (MVP- Amber Stevens West)
Cynthia’s Birthday- A (MVP: Loretta Devine)
    Shoot-able- B+ (MVP- Jerrod Carmichael)
    Morris- A (MVP- Loretta Devine)
    Intervention- B+ (MVP- Tiffany Haddish)
Evelyn and Vernon- B+ (MVP- Loretta Devine)
Maxine’s Sister- A- (MVP- Amber Stevens West)
Low Expectations- A- (MVP- Lil Real Howery)
Three Year Anniversary- A- (MVP- Jerrod Carmichael)
Gold Diggers- A- (MVP- Loretta Devine)

Season MVP: Loretta Devine- “Morris”, “Cynthia’s Birthday”
Best Episodes: “Cynthia’s Birthday”, “Yes Means Yes”

My Thoughts: The third season of The Carmichael Show is proof that multi-cam comedy is still alive. Even though some episodes were not as great as others, there were some truly all time great episodes. “Yes means Yes” and “Cynthia’s Birthday” were almost perfect episodes of television. The performances were great as well: Especially Loretta Devine and David Allen Grier. Devine gives a legendary performance as the Carmichael matriarch with Emmy worthy performances in “Cynthia’s Birthday”, “Morris”, and “Evelyn and Vernon”. This is a truly great show and hopefully it will gain the legacy it deserves.

Maybe It’s All the Disco- B (MVP- Alison Brie)
The Liberal Chokehold- B (MVP- Alison Brie) (Honorable Mention- Britney Young)
Money’s in the Chase- B+ (MVP- Alison Brie)

    Season MVP: Alison Brie
    Breakthrough Performer: Britney Young
    Best Episode(s): “Live Studio Audience”
My Thoughts: GLOW is not perfect, but damn it’s fun. The first six episodes serve as mostly set up, and I must say that I do appreciate a show like this spent so much time on Character development; however, the show is best by far when it focuses on the wrestling. “Live Studio Audience” was by far the best episode as the character development payed off and the wrestling was so much fun. Alison Brie is a sure contender to be nominated, and she has a definite tape with “Maybe it’s All the Disco”. Betty Gilpin is also great and will be a contender to be at least nominated for supporting actress in a comedy series at the Emmy’s. The ensemble was great in my opinion and I hope they all get more spotlight in season 2. Sydelle Noel was great and I hope she gets more to do in season 2. Jackie Tohn was also a standout. Ultimately, GlOW was a flawed, fun show with an amazing ensemble that really found itself in the second half. I expect that season 2 will be a major improvement from an already fun show.

    GYPSY(D)
The Rabbit Hole- D (MVP- Naomi Watts)

My thoughts: Gypsy was definitely not as bad as I expected. Don’t get me wrong, it was not good, but I’m not sure it should be a 46% on Metacritic. Naomi Watts was good at giving mysterious looks to the side. I’ll predict her to get a globe nomination because of her name but God forbid this show gets major Emmy nominations. I was impressed, however, by the cinematography, and I would not mind at all if it was nominated for cinematography. Nothing else though. The writing and pacing was awful. And this is supposed to be a sex thriller but there isn’t a single sex scene until 25 minutes in. And it’s with her husband. BORING. The ending was interesting though. I would have watched more if the critics said it got better. I need less of her boring personal life and more of the mixing up in the life of patients. I did chuckle during the sexy pizza scene though. I will probably not watch any more episodes, despite Naomi Watts.

    INSECURE (B+)
Hella Great- B+ (MVP- Issa Rae)
Hella Questions- B- (MVP- Issa Rae)
Hella Open- A- (MVP- Yvonne Orji)

    MANHUNT: UNABOMBER
    UNABOM- C- (MVP- Chris Noth)
Pure Wudder- C (MVP- Paul Bettany )

ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK (B+)
Riot FOMO- A (MVP- Danielle Brooks)
Fuck, Mary, Frieda- B+ (MVP- Danielle Brooks)
    Pissters- B- (MVP- Amanda Stephen)
Lichfield’s Got Talent- A- (MVP- Amanda Stephen)
Sing it, White Effie- A- (MVP- Danielle Brooks)
Flaming Hot Cheetos, Literally- A- (MVP- Lea DeLaria)
Full Bush, Half Snickers- B+ (MVP- Taylor Schilling)
Tied to the Tracks- B (MVP- Selenis Leyva)
The Tightening- B+ (MVP- Kate Mulgrew)
The Reverse Midas Touch- B+ (MVP- Uzo Aduba)
Breaking the fiberboard Ceiling- C+ (MVP- Uzo Aduba, Honorable mention- Selenis Leyva)
Tattoo You- C+ (MVP- Taylor Schilling)
Storm-y Weather A- (MVP- Danielle Brooks)

    Season MVP: Danielle Brooks
    Breakthrough performer: Amanda Stephen
    Best Episode(s): “Riot FOMO”

My Thoughts: Once again, Orange is the New Black had an amazing season. Although it was flawed and not quite at the level of season four, it was still a great season. First, I have to admire the bold risk that this season took. Telling a three day story over 13 episodes was a very ambitious idea that started off strong, but towards the middle, it struggled. Season four ended on a strong note, which set up the events of this season. The first six episodes were great as they knew what they needed to be, however, from episodes 7-10, the show gets a bit slow and repetitive However, that repetition and lulls in excitement is needed in order to explore the benefits of this unique format. This season would have worked much better with just 10 episodes. Despite the slightly boring and repetitive nature of the middle, the end of the show kicked back into full gear to make for a great season. Orange is the New Black has the best ensemble of all time, and season 4 solidifies that even more. Even though some characters had more screentime than they should have, all of the actors did great with what they were given. Season 5 ended with the prisoners being defeated, so I would assume we will see a major shift in characters: getting rid of a lot of characters and adding a bunch of new ones. I hope that they keep the fan favorites and put them back in the spotlight. I love the sprawling ensemble of the show, but sometimes I wish the show could focus less on some characters and more on characters like Taystee and Red. In the end, even though season 5 tended to be repetitive at times, it was no disappointment and a great follow up to season four. It is still worthy of as many awards it can garner.

    OZARK (C+)
    Sugarwood-D (MVP-Jason Bateman)
Blue Cat- C (MVP- Julia Garner)
My Dripping Sleep- C (MVP- Laura Linney)
Tonight we Improvise- C (MVP- Julia Garner)
Ruling Days- C- (MVP- Jason Bateman)
The Book of Ruth- B (MVP- Julia Garner)
The Nest Box- B (MVP- Laura Linney)
    Kaleidoscope- C (MVP- Laura Linney)
Coffee, Black- B (MVP- Julia Garner)
The Toll- B+ (MVP- Laura Linney)

    Season MVP- Julia Garner
    Honorable Mention- Laura Linney
    Breakthrough performer- Julia Garner
    Best Episode(s): “The Toll”

    My Thoughts:
While, Ozark started out extremely dark, slow, boring, and gloomy, it eventually found its place. Ozark started out trying too hard to be dark. It didn’t feel natural whatsoever. As the show went on, however, the writers discovered the highpoints of the series, and gave them bigger roles. THe high points in Ozark were easily Laura Linney and Julia Garner. Laura Linney should definitely be submitted in supporting, that is where she belongs and it would be easier to get a nomination, but she has a few episodes that could justify a lead placement and since she is a big name she will probably try to submit led. Even if she does submit supporting, there is one actress that deserves a nomination much more that her: Julia Garner. Julia Garner shines in the role of a poor, southern girl in a dysfunctional family who uses her intelligence to benefit herself. Garner plays her with many layers while having a lot of fun with the character, which is a breathe of fresh air in such drk show. Even though it is doubtful, if anybody gets an Emmy nomination for this show, it should be Garner. Once the show realizes what its strengths are, it gets much better. That being said, there are still many flaws throughout. The most annoying flaw is the writer’s lack of being able to let us be surprised. Every episode a character has to give a monologue catching us up on the plot of the show and why they are doing what they are doing. Let us figure that out. However, the finale was the strongest episode by far and there is even one verybig shocker. The strongest part of this mediocre, yet enjoyable, series is the unique characters. I only kept watching because I was interested in the supporting characters. Unfortunately, Jason Bateman’s Larry was not one of the characters I cared about. He was rude, selfish, annoying, and stupid. The show would be so much better without him. I would enjoy it so much better if his character died. In the end, Ozark is not amazing television, but it is an interesting show that is worth watching if you want something to watch.

    THE SINNER
Part I- C+ (MVP- Jessica Biel)

    TOUR DE PHARMACY- C

    MVP: Freddie Highmore
    Breakthrough Performer: Mike Tyson

My Thoughts: It was funny. Not great but I chuckled. Some of the casting was genius. I’d only nominate this for casting, and TV movie because it’ll be weak but they need to just dissolve that category. When they revealed the identity of Freddie Highmore I DIED. I was did find it funny though that Samberg and Highmore never kissed. I wonder which one of them resisted. But honestly that casting was genius.John Cena can’t act but him as the younger Dolph Lundgren was also genius. And Andy Samberg and Jeff Goldblum was funny.Surprisingly I can’t believe I’m saying this but the MVP for me was Mike Tyson. He wasn’t a good actor or anything but he had funny one liners. Will Forte was also very funny.

    • Climax- A (MVP- Jimmy Tatro)
    • Clean Up- A (MVP- Jimmy Tatro)
    Season MVP: Jimmy Tatro
    Best Episode: “Clean Up”
My Thoughts: American Vandal was a hilarious, meticulously made spoof of docu-series. If was poignant, emotional, and so so clever. It was ridiculously funny, but it actually made sense. Some of the best humor came from the fact that it took itself so seriously. The story ended on a beautiful, silly, emotional, and powerful note. The cast was all around excellent. This was an excellent show and I hope it ends up great.

    Season MVP: Keir Gilchrist
    Honorable mention: Brigette Lundy- Paine
    Breakthrough Performer: Keir Gilchrist
Best Episode(s): “The Silencing Properties of Snow”
My thoughts: Atypical is not a special show, but it is lead by a special performance. Gilchrist is excellent in the lead role and Lundy-Paine is excellent as his sister as well. Jennifer Jason Leigh gave a fine performance but her character was very annoying. One thing I do appreciate about the show is that they gave work to so many greta, but underrecognized TV actors. The music on the show was also great. Amy Okuda was also very good. Jennifer Jason Leigh had a borderline role, but my guess is that she will submit in lead actress at awards.

    • The Pornscape- C- (MVP- Nick Kroll)
    MVP: Nick Kroll
Best Episode: I Survived Jessi’s Bat Mitzvah
My Thoughts: While the show contains great performances and many laughs, there are plenty of misses and bad jokes in a meddle of messy writing; however, it is an enjoyable show worth with much potential.

    • What Time Is It Right Now- B+ (MVP- Will Arnett)
    MVP: Amy Sedaris
    Honorable Mention: Will Arnett
    Best Episode: Time’s Arrow
My Thoughts: Season 4 of BoJack Horseman was an emotional and hilarious return of the dark comedy. Amy Sedaris continued to shine and was easily the MVP of the season.

    • Evelyn and Vernon- B+ (MVP- Loretta Devine)
    • Maxine’s Sister- A- (MVP- Amber Stevens West)
    • Low Expectations- A- (MVP- Lil Real Howery)
    • Three Year Anniversary- A- (MVP- Jerrod Carmichael)
    • Gold Diggers- A- (MVP- Loretta Devine)

    • The Defenders- D (MVP- Simone Missick)

    MVP: Krysten Ritter “Royal Dragon”
Honorable Mention: Simone Missick “Fish In the Jailhouse”
Best Episodes: “Ashes, Ashes”, “Royal Dragon”
My Thoughts: The Defenders was a mixed bag. It started out slow, and had some bad episodes, but it was very enjoyable and had great moments. Outside of “Royal Dragon”, the writing was not good. Every other department was giving there A game, but the writers really disappointed. The production design team was poor too. It was apparent this had a very small budget, which was disappointing. Overall, the show was a fun, yet flawed, experience that left me excited for the continued arcs of the characters in their own shows.

    THE DEUCE (B+)

    • Sweet Tea- A (MVP- Andrea Martin)
    • The Silkwood- C+ (MVP- Billy Eichner)
    MVP: Billy Eichner (“The Silkwood”)
    Best Episode: “Sweet Tea”
My Thoughts: Difficult people is an entertaining show that has a lot of joke that miss, but there is definitely no shortage in hits. The show can have some great one liners, even though the plot of each episode tends to be messy and repetitive, with the exception of one standout episode: “Sweet Tea”, which is by far the best episode of the series.

    DOWNWARD DOG (C-)
    • Pilot- C- (MVP- Allison Tolman)

    • 507- B+ (MVP- Kathleen Rose Perkins)
    MVP- Kathleen Rose Perkins
    Best Episode- “502”
My Thoughts- Episodes ended on a great note with it’d best season yet. The characters were beautiful and the journey tied together beautifully.

    • Beyond the Wall- B- (MVP- Sophie Turner)
    • The Dragon and the Wolf- B- (MVP- Peter Dinklage)

    MVP: Sophie Turner
Best Episode: “The Spoils of War”
My Thoughts: While Game of Thrones is still good, this season was disappointed. While the actors and craftsman this season were consistently great, the writers and directors were weighing them down. This season wasn’t bad, but it was the worst so far.

    GET SHORTY (D-)
    • The Pitch- D- (MVP- Sean Bridgers)

    • The Liberal Chokehold- B (MVP- Alison Brie) (Honorable Mention- Britney Young)
    • Money’s in the Chase- B+ (MVP- Alison Brie)

    • Honeypot!- B+ (MVP- Tina Fey)

    GYPSY(D)
    • The Rabbit Hole- D (MVP- Naomi Watts)

    • Hella Disrespectful- B+ (MVP- Yvonne Orji)
    • Hella Perspective- A (MVP- Issa Rae)
    MVP: Issa Rae
    Honorable Mention: Yvonne Orji
    Best Episode: Hella Perspective
My Thoughts: Season 2 was an excellent return to a great show. The second season was funnier and smarter. The performances were once again great and Orji and Rae continue to be Emmy worthy.

My thoughts: Tokyo Project was a beautifully shot, written, and acted film that was emotionally engaging throughout. Elisabeth Moss is once again worthy of an Emmy.
