Do you guys think Modern Family can score a few nominations?

It seems to me that people have given up the series and do not think that they have a chance of big nominations. But I think Modern Family is still one of the most recognizable programs on TV, so there’s a chance in the Best Comedy Series and Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series categories. Probably with Burrell, but I’d prefer Stonestreet and O’Neill this year.

As far as I can tell, performers who got in for every season of their show which started in the last 30 years:
    Tony Shalhoub 8
    Tina Fey 7
    Alec Baldwin 7
    Helen Hunt 7
    xJane Kaczmarek 7
    John Lithgow 6
    Edie Falco 6
    Sarah Jessica Parker 6
    Julia Louis Dreyfus 6*
    Julia Louis Dreyfus 5
    xLouis CK 5
    xMatt LeBlanc 4*
    Allison Janney 4*
    xAnthony Anderson 3*
    xLily Tomlin 3*

    David Hyde Pierce 11
    Ty Burrell 8*
    Rip Torn 6
    Christine Baranski 4
    xTituss Burgess 3*

X for those who managed to lose each time, * for those who can still increase their nomination number.
    30 Rock has 2.

I like how you do not have Alec Baldwin, Chris. I want to replace him with Walton Goggins, but I do not want to get it wrong while you and others get it right. But now I do not have to worry because we can both be wrong! I am really not a fan of Aidy Bryant, but should she be undeniable for her work this year specifically? I do not regularly watch the show.

My favourite prediction of yours is the dropping of Grace and Frankie. Netflix has really scaled back their campaigning of that show this year; perhaps you could compare how Fox gave up on The Last Man on Earth last year, despite Will Forte being an incumbent nominee. Looking back through old predictions, one thing that Gold Derby is not great at is knowing when the Emmys will finally move on from perennial nominees. This seems like the time to ditch Lily Tomlin, but I just do not know who to replace her with, as I do not think that the return of Will & Grace is going to be big.

I certainly think that Modern Family and Ty Burrell are still in the top ten, but I have them outside of the line for nominations in both cases.

Aidy Bryant is being more recognized in the indie film world. It seems like a nice arc in her career, and “SNL” does have an open slot in the category. She also broke through with Sarah Huckabee Sanders this past season.

I chose Kenan Thompson over Alec Baldwin because I have been hearing a strong buzz about him finally getting in. More than a few people (mainly in the variety and comedy worlds) have personally asked me if I thought he would get nominated this year. I’ve never heard anybody asking this question in previous seasons, so there is definitely a strong push we haven’t seen before.

Let’s hope not. Out with the old, in with the more deserving.

Stonestreet and O’Neill gave the best performances in the category. I don’t mind the Comedy Series snub, but the performances are still on fire!

Disrespect the Good Place at your own peril. This is an endorsement of style over substance. Tired of seeing style kick substance’s ass this decade.

No disrespect or endorsements of whatever nonsense there. Chris loves The Good Place. He is voting for it in five categories on his Gold Derby Awards ballot.

Have we ever had a category with only one white guy? Also, Black Panther will be nominated for hosting after film awards season sweeper Brie Larson was snubbed?

Black Panther was a cultural phenomenon. It made over a billion dollars at the box office. The buzz is still huge. I don’t think a billion dollar movie and Brie Larson are comparable.

Im 1977, Lead Actor for a single appearance in a drama or comedy series had 4 nominees, all of them black and for Roots: Louis Gossett Jr., Ben Vereen, John Amos, and and LeVar Burton.

That was the first off the top of my head, I’m sure there have been more.
