Come on Chris, Westworld is way more likely to fall out of Drama Series than The Crown.

Note to myself: Don’t ever feed the trolls. Don’t get involved in others drama. Don’t let myself be swayed by others predictions, trust my gut more often!

Note to all others: If you don’t happen to like me, ignore me. It is that simple.

Netflix and HBO are both strong campaigners. But if one of them falls out, I would predict the distant memory over the one airing while voting was happening. Either might stay strictly on their craft guild voting bringing them double digit nominations. What if it’s Stranger Things on the bubble?

Wow, Chris’s faith in Killingm Eve gives me faith. Killing Eve was my second favorite show of the season (second to only The Deuce) so I don’t care who it knocks out. I’d prefer it didn’t knock out The Crown or The Americans, so as long as those three make it in I’ll be happy.

The buzz in the industry is deafening right now. I added the show and both lead actresses, at least for now.

We will sometimes find that the industry likes to discover something new without it being forced on them. That’s what the show feels like right now — a passionate discovery by many people I’ve seen or spoken with.

Stranger Things made the cut with DGA for the 2nd year in a row, got 4 SAG nominations, and was passionately loved enough to win PGA for Season 1. I have been careful to not use the word lock this Emmy year but I will use it now: Stranger Things Season 2 is a lock for a Drama Series nod, easily in the Top 4. As for Westworld, I don’t think it airing more recently will help it since this newest season was pretty polarized, I would argue more than the first season. None of the few Creative Arts categories Westworld won last year were for anything big like Casting or Picture Editing anyway, so perhaps it’s 22 nods last year was just some kind of weird “easy to like but hard to love” fluke.

All of those things happened right after the season aired. I haven’t heard one person bring it up since in the past 5 months. It might just be a forgotten season by many voters with so many others airing since then to steal the thunder. I’m not predicting it yet, but that show is certainly not safe.

I hope you’re right, especially since you hang out with a lot of voters in the industry as part of your Goldderby job, so it does seem odd no one has brought it up.

I don’t want Stranger Things to be nominated for Drama Series, but I’m worried about letting my opinions negatively influence my predictions on that one.

It is indeed a thing that fall shows do better at the guilds than they do at the Emmys and the reverse is true for spring shows. In such a broad, consensus-based vote for a category with seven slots though, I ultimately cannot bet against the program that was nominated by more guilds than any other this year—not that anyone here is, just to be clear.

I’m actually really tempted to put Killing Eve in now. I’m actually predicting it for 5 nominations at the moment, but not series.

Actress (Oh)- I fee like she is the likeliest.

Writing- Arguably its likeliest category, as the writer tend to be inspired and open minded. And they like the British.

Costumes- Fairly open category and the Villenelle has many flashy pieces.

Casting- I think the best comparison for Killing Eve is actually The Killing. A lead actress contender that was barely missed for series but also got writing (and directing) and casting.

Production Design- Big lavish sets with a lot of mansions and beautiful decor, seems easy.

Could Comer break into actress? Let’s speak hypothetically for a second. Killing Eve’s buzz is so big that it defies the odds and is nominated for series. Well,  that means that voters will see Comer’s performance as well, right? Which is arguably more acclaimed than Oh’s.

Since I am such a big fan of the show, I will not allow myself to predict anymore nominations for the show, as I don’t want my bias to get in the way. 5 is more than enough.
