Two things I’m interested in. First are the HBO shows. I’m still thinking that Westworld is the understudy to Game of Thrones. Was it a placeholder or is it an equal? The potential acclaim and ratings will be what answers that for me.

Second is that I’m fully expecting repeat wins in the lead acting categories. I’m trotting through the rest of This Is Us and while I think the Randall story this year is the absolute pits, Sterling K. Brown work isn’t. Talk about selling a dog of a story. He’s popular and he could have a run in this category. Elisabeth Moss is one that I should be worried about in with saying she in for another win. So many things could go left and make the dreaded sophomore slump happen, but if The Handmaid’s Tale is even on the level of the first season, she’s a no brainer.

I admit I’m always surprised when someone mentions Kate Burton because she didn’t really have much to do in This Is Us. She didn’t have the material to justify a nod, especially when compared to what other actresses had in their guest roles.

I would think Mandy Patinkin is returning, given he’s basically been a Lead this season.

THE OSCAR 100 (#100-96): Kathleen Turner, Shelley Winters, Rosie Perez, Lesley Ann Warren and Kathy Bates

I’ll vomit so hard if Harington gets nommed for Lead Actor for doing absolutely nothing over more deserving people.

    LEAD ACTRESS DRAMA

Elisabeth Moss in The Handmaid’s Tale
    Lock.

    Claire Foy in The Crown
    Lock.

    Keri Russell in The Americans
She is probably close to be a lock.

    Evan Rachel Wood in Westworld
She was nominated for Season 1, but this is a strong year and I don’t see the narrative here.

Mandy Moore in This Is Us
Her show is popular as hell, but there are plenty other places to reward the show. I’m not sure that this is the right category to do so.

    Laura Linney in Ozark
So is an Emmy-favorite, so she is a strong bet.

Emilia Clarke in Game of Thrones
Not to be rude, but I’m not sure that the voters will take her seriously in this category.

    Tatiana Maslany in Orphan Black
They’ve rewarded her, so I’m not sure she’ll be back. It happened before with many champions.

    Maggie Gyllenhaal in The Deuce
Will the James Franco scandal hurt her chances?

    Caitriona Balfe in Outlander
A mostly unknown actress among big and heavy-weight actresses. It’s not very idyllic for her.

Viola Davis in How to Get Away with Murder
    Are they over on her?

Christine Baranski in The Good Fight
If she didn’t happen for Season 1, she will not happen for Season 2.

    Angela Bassett in 9-1-1
Not the most buzzed Ryan Murphy show.

    Claire Danes in Homeland
    Are they over on her?

    Sandra Oh in Killing Eve
She has the narrative and the performance, she is also overdue. I think she is a strong bet.

    Predictions:
    1. Elisabeth Moss
    2. Claire Foy
    3. Keri Russell
    4. Sandra Oh
    5. Laura Linney
    6. Evan Rachel Wood or Many Moore

I’m still predicting Tatiana Maslany for the last spot but I am so sure that she’s not getting nominated. They’ll probably have forgotten about the show itself after one year of its final season, a show that the Emmys only embraced for its lead actress, and took them a while as well, despite her high critical acclaim. I don’t think they’ll go for a farewell nom. And I’m not rly sure if BBC will campaign for her enough.

They are also pushing Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer for Killing Eve. While another Emmy for Tatiana would still be a feather in the network’s cap, they can’t use it to promote future episodes since the show is done. I honestly don’t think they’ll bother to mount much of a campaign for Tatiana.
