Mahershala Ali for Luke Cage and Patricia Arquette for CSI Cyber

These are not valid examples. On the other hand, Viola Davis and Allison Janney hold on to their nominations (Pretty sure Janney will be dropped this year). I would also say Michael Stuhlbarg and Laurie Metcalf benefited from awards season conversation last year.

Applegate not making top 10 is ridiculous and why are so many so high on Cheadle.

No mention of Marc Evan Jackson anywhere (Shawn in TGP; he should be the frontrunner in guest actor), and the dire thought of the most overrated actress on TV getting 2 nominations makes my skin crawl:

    5. Rachel Brosnahan – Saturday Night Live – 645

Applegate not making the top 10 it’s a shame. The show is ok, but she is beyond that. This is year was an incredible year with incredible new performances and people are going with Janney again. Shame.

Also, I’m very surprised with Don Cheadle

The Don Cheadle thing has been explained, the category is incredibly weak and he’s been nominated for a no1curr show on Showtime before. He might not get in but it wouldn’t be that shocking, I mean is anyone predicting Black-ish, After Life, or Kidding anywhere else? Not to mention Macy is a legitimate possibility despite his wife being involved in probably the biggest celebrity scandal of the year.

Its funny how both comedy actor and actress are crapshoots after the top 2 contenders, but actress because of a plethora of contenders and actor because a total lack

Others have said it but it really is quite startling to me how much of a bloodbath Comedy Actress is this year. I mean there’s thirteen that could get in without people even blinking:

    JLD
    Brosnahan
    Lyonne
    Adlon
    Tomlin
    Waller-Bridge
    Janney
    Brie
    Rae
    Applegate
    Bell
    Ellis Ross
    Fonda

And even beyond them there’s some that would only be mild surprises:

    O’Hara (TCA nom)
    Cardellini
    Bryant

And that’s still excluding Messing and Bergen who were Globe nominated. What a year.

EDIT: And Ellie Kemper – a two time nominee in a show that could easily just get nominated in Comedy Series again

Is it weak though?? Maybe just for Lead Actor. All of the other acting categories in comedy are very competitive. Bill Hader and Ted Danson are the only for sure bets for lead actor imo.

But Jim Carrey is a movie star, Gervais is emmy darling and Sacha Baron Cohen’s is a moviestar with the mix of destroying the right which the left(many are in the academy) dont understand how cheadle would be above those 3 guys. Black Monday doesn’t have great reviews or viewership either.

I think there is going to be a lot of surprises this year, in mostly every category.
