Does anyone think its possible that veep wins all three of its acting categories this year (JLD, Chlumsky, and Hale)? I feel like the narrative (and performance) is too strong for JLD, Chlumsky has a lot to do this year and has an overdue/last chance narrative, and I could easily see Hale winning (especially if only one other Veep guy gets in instead of multiple)

I think that there is no passion for Anna Chlumsky (deservedly) and Tony Hale’s competitors are too strong, not to mention that he might also be hurt by vote-splitting and weak material.

Does anyone else think that Aidy is the SNL person most likely to win this year? She’ll most likely get snubbed for Comedy Lead Actress, but she’ll still have the buzz to help her out. Plus her Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Meghan McCain have gotten more buzz than anything Kate Mckinnon has done in a couple years.

I had a similar hunch when “Shrill” premiered, but I don’t even remember if I still have her in my predictions. Could happen though. It does seem like she’s kind of eclipsed McKinnon in buzz right now.

Gina Rodriguez inevitably being snubbed for the 5th year in a row will be unforgivable.

lol. The award show that drew so little interest that they had to move it to E network in between reruns of Kourtney and Khloe take Miami

Give Paul Thomas Anderson an Oscar.

Bell already has a win over JLD (2015 People’s Choice’s, Best Premium Cable Actress).

Everytime you say this it brightens my day beyond description.

Even though Lead Actress in a Comedy series could be completely shaken up with new (and worthy) nominees this year, I have a sad feeling that we are just going to see a repeat of last year’s nominees with the addition of Julia Louis Dreyfus.

Prediction for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series:
    Pamela Aldon – Better Things
    Tracee Ellis Ross – black-ish
    Julia Louis Dreyfus – Veep
Lily Tomlin – Grace & Frankie
    Issa Rae – Insecure
    Allison Janney – Mom
Rachel Brosnahan – The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

That means the following will probably be left out:

Kristen Bell – The Good Place
    Alison Brie – GLOW
    Natasha Lyonne – Russian Doll
    Phoebe Waller Bridge – Fleabag
    Catherine O’Hara – Schitt’s Creek
    Aidy Bryant – Shrill
    Rachel Bloom – Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
Gina Rodriguez – Jane the Virgin
Justina Machado – One Day at A Time
    Emmy Rossum – Shameless
Ellie Kemper – Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

In what universe is Laurie Metcalf getting in for The Conners?

If they go for nostalgia they will nominate Mullally for Will and Grace over her.

Does anybody here actually watch Mom? Is Janney good enough to explain all of this Emmy love?

In my opinion, yes. Her and Faris are amazing together. I think people on here just dismiss her as unworthy because multi-cam isn’t respected anymore

For an entirely show different show that’s not even on air anymore.

Not seen it since the third season but yeah both Faris and Janney are fantastic, the show itself did struggle to find a balance between the comedic and dramatic elements (that’s an issue with every multi-cam show, though)

I’m a casual fan who mostly watches in syndication, but yes, Janney is excellent and gets meaty material that she consistently kills.

Faris has been a worthy nominee for years.

“Mom” is easily one of the best multi-camera comedies on TV right now, second probably to “One Day at a Time” (RIP). The show really turned it around in the later seasons once they changed the focus from being about Faris’ family to her “chosen family” of friends from AA. Janney admittedly had her best material in the earlier seasons, but she’s still great, though not necessarily a lead in my opinion. Faris is still squarely the lead and Janney a strong supporting character. Neither actress has been a part of my personal lineups since the third season (sixth season currently airing), but they’re still really strong performers and the writing is surprisingly poignant for a Chuck Lorre show.

All of this being said, Janney has been the only recognition for the show and enough time has passed since her Oscar win that I could see them dropping her this year in favor of a new contender from a more popular show. I don’t have her out of my predictions yet, but I’m definitely watching to see if one of the “Dead to Me” actresses impresses, or another contender like Kristen Bell, Alison Brie or Phoebe Waller-Bridge can squeak in.

Well, that was short-lived.  Reviews are apparently coming out for Dead to Me already and we have a C− from IndieWire and a 60 from Variety.  Long live Russian Doll in our Emmy predictions.
