Hmm Netflix are ramping up their FYC campaigns now they don’t have The Crown and Stranger Things airing before the deadline.

I would say that they are currently focusing heavily on Bodyguard, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and GLOW. But I would say that there is a possibility of an upset from Netflix in Lead in a Drama Series from Toni Collette for Wanderlust and in Supporting in a Limited Series from John Goodman (who could be double nominated) for Black Earth Rising.

Here’s a lock at their fyc package:

Up to 92 now on Metacritic

With Netflix’s aggressive campaigning for their content, I hope this is also one of their priorities!

I wonder if the Academy will decide to somehow have Beyonce’s category from the Creative Arts at the main ceremony, just to try to have her there, lol.

I hope Netflix doesn’t forget Russian Doll. It really would’ve benefited from a 2018 release so that it could have made a splash at the Golden Globes but oh well. It, and Natasha Lyonne, are too good to be ignored.

Riley, do you remember which shows were part of Netflix’s first batch of FYC DVDs last year?

Netflix shipped three times last year:

    1. Friday, April 27th
    a. Godless complete season

    2. Friday, May 11th
    a. GLOW complete season
    b. Ozark complete season
    c. a box of tall, thick cases for complete seasons of Black Mirror, The Crown, The End of the F***ing World, One Day at a Time and Stranger Things

    3. Friday, May 25th
    a. Mindhunter complete season
    b. a box of tall, thick cases for complete seasons of Lost in Space and 13 Reasons Why, plus tall, thin cases for select episodes of ten other programs
    c. a box of short, thin cases for select episodes of twenty programs

So their strategy is very different this year. First of all, at this time last year, voters had not received anything from Netflix. Secondly, Netflix started last year with their big shows, whereas they have started with mostly lower-tier contenders this time. Grace and Frankie, Orange is the New Black and Narcos were part of the 3c group last year, but voters have those ones already this year. And voters only got select episodes of Grace and Frankie and Orange is the New Black, but full seasons of just about everything else.

Here’s my guess: the category that’ll screw us over is Limited/ Movie supporting actress. The Gold Derby top 6 reminds me of limited supporting actor last year, which is why I am totally going against the grain and have Nash, Farmiga, and yes, Garner getting in. Garner is a complete wild card, but it’s still early enough to play around a bit.

Emmy voters must bend the knee to Lena Headey & Emilia Clarke for "Game of Thrones." It's their last chance to award them. Make it happen.

I know that these predictions are crazy, but I’m just trying to account for some of the more unexpected surprises that I see popping up. A lot of these are very much based on gut feeling more than anything else.

I have 4, 1/100 odds in that category: Emma Thompson (not 1/100 anymore though), Anna Gunn, Chloe Sevigny, and Elizabeth Reaser. I am predicting all of their programs to get in their respective categories too.

Love those picks. This category is insane. I’d personally love to see Kate Siegel nominated instead of Reaser tbh though.

It is insane. Yeah, I would rather see Siegel and/or Victoria Pedretti as well but they are not in the predictions center, unfortunately.

I’ll riot if people like Elizabeth Perkins and Carmen Ejogo are nominated over Reaser and Siegel for basically doing nothing. I’m currently holding onto theory that The Haunting of Hill House previously had to compete as a drama series, and wasn’t campaigned for the guilds. Also, Chloe Sevigny might use visibility from being in various shows in a year (The Act and Russian Doll): the random nominees we see each year.

Odd question, since a lot of Rent Live was pre taped dress rehearsal footage, would it still be competing in Variety Special (Live) or would it be moved to pre-recorded?

We’re starting to receive full campaign submission lists from the networks. Here is the one for Showtime…
