I’m focusing on Series, but overall too.

    Comedy

    Other major winners – n/a.

Guest Acting is zero help since they both went to SNL. Casting is no help since it went to the sweeper.

Cinematography went to Maisel and Editing went to Insecure. But the most creatives went to Maisel so guess it’s the only show that had a 1% chance.

    Drama

    Ozark, S Actress.

(Morning Show, S Actor. SNUBBED for Series

    Euphoria, Actress. SNUBBED for Series)

Interesting how Ozark came thisclose to a shutout and was the only other Series nominee with a major win.

Casting/G Actress/Editing are no help since they went to the winner. G Actor went to a Series SNUB.

Cinematography went to Mandalorian and it won the most Creative awards. But it was shut out of acting, directing, and writing. So I guess even though it won just one award, the default super-distant runner-up is Ozark?

    Limited

    Mrs America – S Actress

    Unorthodox – Writing

(I Know This Much is True, Actor. SNUBBED for Series)

Casting/Editing/Cinematography all went to the winner. Both Mrs America and Unorthodox won no Creatives. Mmm…Mrs America overcame vote splitting while Unorthodox benefited from vote splitting so I guess Mrs America as a miles-behind runner-up.

Wow, given the overall results, the 3 winners tonight must’ve totally obliterated the competitors given how hard it is to come up with even credible runners-up.

The one I’m confused about is who was the runner up in Comedy Series. Not like it matters anyway because Schitt’s was like deservingly far and ahead of everything else in that category but Maisel apart from its acting shut out performed quite decently at the crafts but then how comes it couldn’t benefit from the Schitt’s vote split in Editing?

Limited Series was Mrs. America. You could tell from the audience clapping more or less when they were announcing the nominees.

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", GLENN CLOSE FOR "HILLBILLY ELEGY", ANTHONY HOPKINS FOR "THE FATHER", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

    Uh, audience?

Limited was Unorthodox.  Directing was the simulation that we needed.  Uzo Aduba beating Jean Smart is as irrelevant as Mark Ruffalo beating Jeremy Irons.  She had co-stars and he was the lone nomination for his show, both mountains to climb.  Drama was Ozark because it tied in nominations and was represented in all key fields.

I meant the loud claps for when the Mrs. America nominees were presented but then again I’m inclined to agree with you about Unorthodox.

Drama was Ozark because it tied in nominations and was represented in all key fields.

It tied in nominations, yet didn’t win a single thing other than Julia Garner.

I actually think The Mandalorian might have been a (very) distant runner-up. I know it didn’t get into Casting, Directing or Writing but it did have visibility and buzz. Plus it won some crafts over stronger shows. Also the fact that directors prefered to go with “Hunting” instead of “Aberfan” and “Fire Pink” gives me a huge pause in considering any of these two as the runner-up. The Crown won Production Design and no drama series, until last year, won Drama series without this category. GoT lost to Chernobyl (won Miniseries) and The Crown was never winning Series against Succession. Also, Succession chose the wrong episode and it’s not a craft show. So I would go either The Crown or The Mandalorian as the runner-up.

Drama is confusing, because while Ozark was the only other Series nominee to win an award last night, Euphoria and TMS also won acting awards with no Series nominations, so there doesn’t seem to be a connection between Acting winners and Series. I’d still go with the Crown, if only because I’m confident Aberfan was closer to winning Directing than Fire Pink.

Unorthodox is obvious. I’ll say Maisel and Insecure were close enough to call it a tie. Not to the same extent as SC, but Insecure increased its nominations considerable this year and that seems to be a running theme for the Comedy/Drama Series winners.

I want to say that the production design “statistic” is now among the worst that I have seen.

I meant the loud claps for when the Mrs. America nominees were presented but then again I’m inclined to agree with you about Unorthodox.

Are you talking about the the canned applause that they recycled from previous years or the applause of the eight people who were on the Zoom call at the time? There was no audience!

Oh well… What can I say?! It’s still a statistic.

I don’t think Ozark was the runner up (as deserving as this season of the show was). I mean yes you could argue it had lots of support because of the amount of nominations it had but no Drama since House of Cards in 2016 had been shut out of the creative arts with that high amount of nominations. Garner did win but that was more likely to do with the fact that (as many people who were rooting for and predicting have been saying) was because of passion for her and her performance.

Sure The Crown did miss out in places like Editing and Ozark did tie in nominations with Succession but the former managed to win in some of the categories it was nominated in (albeit they all didn’t have Succession in them). Ozark losing an easy Sound Mixing win to a Comedy Series (that itself got shut out above the line in wins) on top of all its other losses doesn’t incline me to say it was second.

We’ll never know what was truly second because of how Succession deservingly swept in and won Series in a landslide but I mean it’s not as if we argue that The Handmaid’s Tale or Atlanta were second in 2018 because they got more nominations and in places The Crown season 2 or Barry season 1 missed.

The Crown didn’t perform better than Ozark in either nominations or wins so what’s even the narrative for it to be ahead of it?

The Mandalorian was probably the runner-up to Succession. But a veeeeeeeeeery distant runner-up. Not a lot of love for season 3 of Ozark by the Academy, besides the nominations and Julia Garner. Unorthodox was clearly the runner-up to Watchmen.

I do not see how it qualifies as a statistic if it seemingly has more exceptions than rules.

    It literally did.

Also, Season 2 of The Crown received the same amount of nominations as Season 3 (way less than GoT and The Handmaids Tale) and yet everyone agrees it was the runner-up for series.

I do not see how it qualifies as a statistic if it seemingly has more exceptions than rules.

But weren’t GoT and The Crown the only exceptions? I’m not familiar with the veracity of this statistic, I just came up with it because several users used it for predictions.

Ah, so you are just saying things that you think that you heard.

I mean it’s not as if we argue that The Handmaid’s Tale or Atlanta were second in 2018 because they got more nominations and in places The Crown season 2 or Barry season 1 missed.

Barry won lead actor, plus DGA directly over The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Atlanta did not win in a major category at the Emmys or guilds for its season. The Crown won lead actress and directing; The Handmaid’s Tale did not win in a major category at the Emmys or guilds for its season. Ozark got more nominations than The Crown, plus it won a major award over it that The Crown was favoured to win.

I didn’t think I heard. I definitely heard it. And whats the problem with bringing that up?! Several people used it and no one said it was a false statistic.
