Small Axe is definitely being underestimated here. I think it’s possible BAFTA gives it the Black Mirror s4 treatment so instead of nominating Boyega they nominate Parkes but they nominate Toussaint like they nominated Simpson.
If it goes limited (big if because I won’t be surprised if either it or Normal People went Drama) then is I May Destroy You locked for the win? I mean I don’t see how they can pass any of it (apart from maybe Actress and S. Actress) up under the tape system. Especially if the jury has already seen it once and are re-watching because I started watching the show again for the second time and it’s even better on a second watch and you appreciate Coel’s writing a lot more.
No it’s only been confirmed for the Globes
Well we actually don’t know if it’s only for the Globes or not.

I’m not saying it won’t be for everything, but the categories they posted are only for the globes.

January 3, 2021 at 11:35 am #1203959912I wonder if BAFTA may place I May Destroy You in Drama like they did with Giri/Haji? Whichever category it goes in its winning but if it is in Limited then I Hate Suzie will win Drama Series and if it is in Drama then Small Axe will win Limited. But then again where will Small Axe go? I’ll put it in Single Drama for now until we see what RTS do with it.
Is Actor going to end up being Tennant vs O’Connor (if he goes lead like he did at the Globes)?

From the article, the Best Mini-Series category is going to be a bloodbath!
As for the acting, I’ve just shortlisted some leading contenders for now. The placements probably aren’t accurate but it’s early days yet!
BEST ACTOR
Anthony Boyle, DANNY BOY
Joe Cole, THE IPCRESS FILE
Luke Evans, THE PEMBROKESHIRE MURDERS
Martin Freeman, THE RESPONDER
Stephen Graham, HELP
Charlie Heaton, THE ELEPHANT MAN

Emily Watson, TOO CLOSEJanuary 6, 2021 at 12:27 pm #1203966212Jodie should be lucky Killing Eve will be ineligible in 2022 so she doesn’t split hairs.
Suranne Jones, GENTLEMAN JACK Suranne Jones, I AM VICTORIA Suranne Jones, VIGIL
Jesus I know she’s a BAFTA and industry darling and she’s phenomenal (I remember seeing her on set on an ITV drama she was in years ago when I was taking all sorts of temp jobs as a runner and I was impressed by her professionalism and dedication) but this is too much Suranne. She may have a fourth show in contention if Save Me returns lol.
Kelly Macdonald, LINE OF DUTY
Now this is one I’m looking forward to. To say MacDonald is underrated is an understatement. She should have been nominated at the BAFTAs for Trainspotting and Giri/Haji, won for The Victim and should have won an Emmy for Boardwalk Empire and should get nominated for Truth Seekers there this year. I am here for her delivering a performance on the scale of Hawes and Graham (although after the horrendous snub of Graham I am worried about Line of Duty’s future at BAFTA).

I certainly don’t think all those performances will be up for awards but I just figured it was best to show her filmography for this year lol.
I know they’ll be another Save Me but that one probably won’t be on till 2022 (a’la Killing Eve).
Jodie, Niamh Algar and Maxine Peake are the three Best Actress contenders that I’ll be rooting for (as things stand).
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 7, 2021 at 9:24 am #1203967440Gosh it was so infuriating when she got snubbed for The Virtues when she was better than the entire lineup.
I actually preferred Helen Behan to her in The Virtues, but she deserved a nod full stop. Still not over that series going home BAFTA-less.
I’m hoping that My Name is Lizzie turns out well given the subject matter.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 9, 2021 at 3:22 am #1203971297Sorry to hijack the 20/21 thread again but the Jimmy McGovern drama Time has wrapped filming. Expect that and stars Sean Bean and Stephen Graham to be in contention for the 2022 BAFTAs.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 19, 2021 at 1:12 pm #1203991894Separate note but I feel quite confident after watching the first episode of Finding Alice that it’s not going to be a big contender. I wouldn’t be surprised if Keeley Hawes got into Actress though because I can see her performance making it to the longlist and impressing the jury.
It’s a Sin on the other hand looks like it might be a massive contender next year. So excited for it because I will always watch anything Russell T. Davies writes and I am slightly biased towards Lydia West because she’s related to an old and close friend haha.
