I saw the pilot. It was entertaining but flawed. Oliver Stark’s character is cringier than Justin Hartley’s on This is Us. Basset has a baity role so watch out for her at the award circuit. Kraus was okay but seemed a bit wooden. Aisha Hinds was great as expected. She was a central character but didn’t have too much to do yet. Hopefully she’ll have more to come and eventually get her overdue Emmy nomination. Britton was also very good. From a writing standpoint, too many crazy things happen and it could get old, but it was entertaining and energetic at least. The show is a fresh take at some old ideas. I don’t know how the critics will react yet. I suspect it’ll be in the 60’s or 70’s on metacritic. This seems like it’ll be an audience hit. I’m curious, Emmy wise, if this will be the next Empire or This is Us. Based on the pilot alone, I wouldn’t bet on it being an awards player, but this show has such prestige that I’ll wait. The execution though, is terrible, so I doubt this is an awards player.

63 on metacritic with 8 reviews. Maybe this hits at the Globes but I don’t see it getting much more.

This was even worse on second viewing. 60 on metacritic with 20 reviews. Such a shame that such an amazing ensemble was wasted on this show. This is getting no awards attention.

I actually like the pilot. It wasn’t perfect or the best but it was still satisfying for me.

As someone who has done Connie Brittons job (911 dispatcher) on the show i am very interested in watching the show and seeing how closely it mirrors the real job.

It was nice. Nothing too awful. It had some terrible acting moments from Bassett and some of the other cast members, but as usual this is a Ryan Murphy show that casts so many great actors that you can’t wait to watch it again. Even with cheesy lines, Grey’s Anatomy style situations and bad acting, this is still a show with Britton, Bassett, Krause, Hinds and Choi. All terrific actors who I don’t mind watching week after week….or as long as it lasts.

But Murphy needs to step it up. It needs better writing. There’s a good show here somewhere. I’m interested how and when does Britton get scenes with the rest of the cast.

This was on after Hell’s Kitchen last night so I gave it a shot. It’s kinda meh for me. Bassett and Britton were the only stand outs in my opinion. I guess the only thing I can compare this to is Chicago PD because I had the same reaction to that and look how long its still on. My grade: B

Watched the Pilot last night. It was kind of meh for me. This kind of reminds me of Chicago Fire, where you get personal storylines, as well as action scenes. While these action scenes are more interesting, I like Chicago Fire as a whole more than I do this. I feel Bassett was wasted here. Hopefully it improves.

I admit this is become a guilty pleausre for me.
I thought Pilot was awful but it grew on me with next episodes.
It’f fun to watch with some good performances.
I especially like Aisha Hinds, Oliver Stark and the Always reliable Peter Krause.

I gave a second opportunity to this show.
It’s very ‘bingeable’ and fun, but I can see how this show has rushed to be produced. I mean Ryan Murphy admitted it “Murphy said the show wasn’t originally supposed to premiere until September 2018, but Walden (Fox Entertainment Group chairman) fast tracked it to premiere this winter.”
I think the stories need to mature, to get more focus on the main and supporting characters and not so much in the weekly cases.
To really get deep. I think Murphy (who I think is brilliant) needs to get some inspiration on Grey’s – I know everyone thinks that the show should have been canceled year ago, but they always deliver very consistent characters and storylines, that grab your attention and gives you all kinds of emotions. And I think that’s what this show is lacking – a little more of emotion, a better script (I mean ‘Pose’ is so well written and has such a compelling script, a little more of ‘Pose’ on 9-1-1, please :))

Note that the season premiere will air on Sunday night 9/23 at 8 Eastern (or later, if Fox’s NFL coverage runs long that night) before moving to its normal Monday at 9 timeslot the following night. It is also expected to be the only non-repeat that night, as the normal Sunday night schedule shows have their season premieres on 9/30.

I still have to watch episodes 9 & 10, but I am disappointed at how Angela Bassett’s husband being gay subplot didn’t really go anywhere.
