With two miniseries with American Crime in the title currently on TV, I’ve been wondering which show people like better. Personally I can’t get enough of American Crime (AC), but there seems to be more buzz for American Crime Story (ACS).
What does everyone else think?February 23, 2016 at 9:32 am #367834
American Crime, for me. It’s incredible.February 23, 2016 at 9:45 am #367836
ACS is good, but overall it’s light and pretty much just an acting showcase. American Crime really delves into uncomfortable realities and does it remarkably. I guess the big difference is that American Crime feels like it matters where as ACS doesn’t.February 23, 2016 at 9:46 am #367835
American Crime hands down. One of the best seasons of television I have ever seen. I still can’t believe it’s on ABC.

LMAO is this REALLY a question? AMERICAN CRIMEFebruary 23, 2016 at 12:16 pm #367838
Both shows are quite brilliant in their own way, but I think the comparision is between a great work of entertainment and a great work of art. “American Crime Story” is pulpy, poppy fun, while “American Crime” uses its genre trappings to explore issues of race, sex, class, and gender in new and exciting ways.February 23, 2016 at 5:36 pm #367839
This season of American Crime is unlike anything I’ve seen before.
I wasn’t crazy about the first season of American Crime; it was good, but nothing compared to this year.
American Crime Story is all about pop culture, just as O.J. was when the case went down.
ACS has been regarded as an acting showcase, but I think AC has arguably better acting in its second season than ACS. Lili Taylor, Regina King, Connor Jessup, and Joey Pollari are all killing it nearly EVERY episode. Sarah Paulson and Courtney B. Vance have been standouts so far, but the rest of the ensemble haven’t had their “shining” moments yet.
I do enjoy ACS very much too, moreso than most other shows from this TV season, but there is no topping Season 2 of American Crime.February 23, 2016 at 7:09 pm #367840
I really like both, but American Crime wins due to its thoughful and emphatic handling of delicate subject matter (and Lili Taylor). As a fan of AHS and its hammy acting, I do love this new incarnation, but I can’t buy Cuba as OJ and the script falls flat at points.
For Your Consideration:

Best Actress: Carice van Houten (Instinct)February 23, 2016 at 7:18 pm #367841
American Crime. And I agree about everything that has been said above by 9 different posters. Fairer comparison would be between AHS and ACS.February 23, 2016 at 7:26 pm #367842
And ACS is not an acting showcase(I guess that’s the argument that people use when they understand that something isn’t deserving with any of its other aspects?) nor that its actors are better but you can bet on your life that it’ll get more acting nominations than AC. And that’s simply because acting branch in the Academy have always been pussies that don’t want to challenge themselves and go for vanilla melodramatic soaps over daring, brave, raw shows. Always have been, and always will. It’s true at the Oscars, too.February 23, 2016 at 8:21 pm #367843
American Crime has the best acting ensemble on television. If only the people at SAG would notice.

Specious comparison when one show has almost two completed seasons and the other isn’t at the halfway point of its first season yet.February 24, 2016 at 7:11 am #367845
“American Crime” for sure. “American Crime Story” is Razzie-calibur.February 24, 2016 at 10:30 am #367846

I should have been more specific in the topic name, as I am only comparing AC Season 2 with ACS. I’ve changed the title and option name to reflect that.
It’s funny that everyone is saying AC by a mile, yet there seems to be much more hype and conversation on ACS here on Gold Derby. Even with awards buzz, ACS seems to be getting more support.February 24, 2016 at 11:53 am #367847
I haven’t seen American Crime Story yet but American Crime Season 2 has been one of the best. I didn’t love season one that much but this season has blown me away and the acting from almost each cast member is deserving of a nomination.
