Dunham was nominated the past three years, but none of the Editors are predicting her for a nomination this year, and I can’t figure out why. She was just as good this season as past ones, and has a couple of excellent tapes if she gets nominated. She’s third in my predictions, and I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. Can someone tell me what I’m missing?June 29, 2015 at 11:29 am #351822
Yeah, Lena Dunham will always have her supporters, so I feel like she could get in again, but it’s a very crowded category and there are buzzier names this year. Then again, what if she’s a perennial nominee and we just don’t realize it yet?
I’m not predicting her, but I won’t be surprised if she gets nominated.June 29, 2015 at 11:35 am #351823
I have her in!
Don’t lose hope.June 29, 2015 at 11:58 am #351824
She has one particular batshit crazy winning episode called ‘Triggering’ if she’ll be nominated. So, fingers crossed.June 29, 2015 at 12:08 pm #351825
Lena Dunham has never left my lead comedy actress predictions, nor should she.June 29, 2015 at 12:13 pm #351826

I was thinking of that one, or the season finale. Either one is a very competitive tape. I’m glad I’m not alone in predicting her, but those 100/1 odds are hard to ignore.June 29, 2015 at 12:27 pm #351827
I think she’s getting in again.
You really think “Triggering” would be her episode, though? “Sit-In” was some of the best work Dunham has done on Girls, and its also the 2nd closest Girls will ever get to a bottle episode, as it’s pretty much entirely set in her apartment. Especially the end with Adam breaking up with her. And she was also excellent in the finale, “Home Birth” – these were two of her most emotional episodes to date.June 29, 2015 at 12:41 pm #351828

Sit-In was a good episode for her, but the problem I had with it was that it didn’t have much range. It was also very similar to her previous tapes. The last episode had a great moment between her and Adam in the hospital, that made you actually feel sorry for Hannah. I think that set it apart from the rest of the season, as it felt very earned, and demonstrated a different side to her character. Triggering was a more comedic tape, and that often works well in this category. It was also very cringeworthy, which has worked for Louis-Dreyfus the past few years. I think any of them would be good tapes, but it might also depend on the other nominees submissions. Dreyfus doesn’t feel as competitive this year, so the category might be a bit more up in the air.June 29, 2015 at 1:13 pm #351829
I was wondering this too. I needed another previous nominee in my predictions for Comedy Actress since it usually doesn’t have a lot of new names. I have McCarthy in, but Dunham seems like a more reasonable choice.June 29, 2015 at 2:27 pm #351830
Yeah it’s odd how low she is on the boards because I think she has a way better chance of getting in than someone like Gina Rodriguez. I just think alot us are holding out hope that their will be some new blood in the raceJune 29, 2015 at 3:26 pm #351831
With Girls being out of Comedy Series (forever) and she being already a three time nominee and never won and nobody sees her as overdue, the feeling that nobody cares anymore starts to make its way to everybody’s predictions. But in the “deserving” department, she’s still very much there. She should be nominated. But competition is strong, she never won, never will let’s be honest, so I can understand why everybody thinks that it’s time to drop her.July 2, 2015 at 7:19 pm #351832
We are underestimating Lena Dunham. I put her in my predictions for a couple of days, then moved her out again. Even though she’s not on my list, she’s always hovering around 7th, 8th, or 9th in my mind. It’s my fault as much as anyone else’s that we don’t discuss enough that she’s a factor, but she definitely is.
Of course, there’s also reason to believe she won’t get in. After two strong seasons at the Emmys, the show dropped out of a lot of categories last year, with only Dunham and Driver getting back in. That could be a sign that the Emmys are just ready to move on.July 3, 2015 at 2:10 pm #351833
In the end it doesn’t matter, it really is an honor getting nominated and to then have a great episodeJuly 4, 2015 at 8:00 am #351834
I don’t see her getting in but yes she doesn’t deserve to be 100/1 odds that’s ridiculous especially because she has gotten in the past 3 years. So yes she is being underestimatedJuly 5, 2015 at 9:58 am #351835
Emmy inertia is very real, but there are also times when we can all feel that a nominee’s time is up. Nobody predicted a second best drama nomination for True Blood, nor did anyone predict a fifth for Dexter.
Lena Dunham and Girls have never gotten Screen Actors Guild nominations, so she has probably never been in the upper half of the category anyway. With her show getting older and already having been dropped in series, plus all of the viable new contenders, her time is up.
"I don't even believe in god, but I'm going to thank her tonight."
