When I started watching Baskets, I came for Zach Galifianakas but stayed for Martha Kelly and Louie Anderson. Louie Anderson’s emmy nomination and respective win for season 1 felt like an unexpected miracle. Christine Baskets became a driving focus of the show and the final season gave her several spotlight episodes with Louie Anderson giving series best work in “Mrs. Baskets goes to Sacramento”. His speech at the end had so much emotional nuance, unexpected turns, and spoke to the heart of his character.

Martha Kelly gives such a great and funny deadpan performance which services the character so well but doesn’t give her enough range to have any showy acting moments. I imagined her playing Janet from the Good Place in the same deadpan manner and getting a big laugh from it.
