I have a feeling this is going to end up being the next Coach unless they either turn it into a revival, which may not work without John Mahoney, or they do a clean break and cast someone else as Frasier. The minute people see Kelsey Grammer but not David Hyde-Pierce or Jane Leeves, they’re going to say, “That’s not Niles; that’s not Daphne; this isn’t Frasier.”

Here’s a thought: instead of Frasier, make it about his son. Then again, that was the problem with the Coach revival, wasn’t it?

I am a huge fan of Frasier, but I don’t want to see a reboot without John Mahoney. It just won’t feel right.

Frasier ended on a perfect note. It doesn’t need to come back. Also, now that John Mahoney is sadly gone, what’s the show going to be like without Martin? There’s no way they’d ever recast that role because nobody but John Mahoney could have played him.

    There was a Coach revival?

Anyway, I think a new Frasier can actually be interesting if there are excellent writers on board. I mean how many people thought Frasier would work on his own without the other cast of the highly successful Cheers and without Lilith being a constant presence back when that spin-off was announced?

The show just has to be its own distinct thing the way Frasier was from Cheers. Frasier had a completely different look, different creative team, and different comedy writers from Cheers. They got lucky that the new team were excellent comedy writers and hit the jackpot with the concept of having Frasier’s equally high-strung brother and down-home father to play his foil. Watching the early seasons of Frasier is really amazing how well everything worked from the get-go. That said, maybe people were only into one spin-off with Frasier as a central character and not two.

I adore Frasier but no way should this happen without Mahoney.

Speaking of revivals, I was thinking The West Wing could be the next one, if they manage to get the cast together. Scandal ended, House of Cards and Veep are ending – it would make sense in this political climate.

I completely agree. Martin was just a great compliment to Frasier and Niles’ characters. Who will fill the hole left by Mahoney? Millicent Martin? No.

Do you think we should start with the Santos administration? I feel like it would be weird if Bartlet was still President in this reboot.

There was one planned; in fact, NBC announced it as being on its 2015-16 midseason schedule. The idea was that Coach Fox’s son (apparently, he adopted him in the last season of the original series) was hired as the head football coach at some fictional Ivy League university and the son hired him as an assistant of some sort. However, NBC and Barry Kemp had different ideas as to the show’s direction, and it never got past the pilot.

Based on the Deadline article, it sounds like Grammar and CBS want to explore Frasier in a new city and, presumably, with a new cast of characters. I think that’s one of the only ways it could work, given the absence of John Mahoney. It would be a shame not to have some of the other main cast members on board, though, especially since Jane, Peri, and David do not have other, long-term commitments right now. Regardless, I’d love to see this come to fruition. I still watch and love the original series, and would certainly welcome it back if done properly.

If I recall correctly, didn’t he end up getting a tv show in the series finale. That would be brilliant. Him and the crew and maybe Laura Linney (she was the last love interest for him I think) and the guest stars from Cheers and Original cast. Just really hope Niles and Daphne are back full time though

This continues the parade of reboots and it illustrates the lack of creativity in entertainment.
