Best Half-Hour Comedy Nominee since S1?

So far 9 half-hour 21stc comedies got into the top Emmy category for their first season. Which is your favorite series overall? I say 30 Rock.

It’s interesting that it’s 1 each for Netflix/Amazon/NBC/ABC/Fox/Showtime, then 3 for campaign kings HBO. And the 2000s were much less prone to jumping quickly into a hot new show. Perhaps the expansion of nominees explains part of the shift.

Shows that took a bit longer: Malcolm/Enthusiasm/Office/Conchords S2, Entourage/Half Men/Parks/Louie S3, Scrubs/HIMYM/Big Bang S4, Family Guy S7

Hard to say because some of these are still going, but ‘Veep’ may wind up as my favorite comedy series of all-time.

If we’re just looking at first seasons, ‘Girls’, ‘Modern Family’, and ‘Arrested Development’ are the gold standard.

In fact, I have ‘Girls’ and ‘Arrested Development’ S1 at 9.5/10 and ‘Modern Family’ at 9.4/10. ‘Veep’ season one? 7.9/10.

The most consistently great show is probably 30 Rock. The rest either suck, are okay, or used to be great but fell off the wagon.

FYC: Ready Player One. Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Visual Effects, Original Score, Production Design, Director and BEST PICTURE (make it happen Oscars!!)

I’m gonna leave Transparent off, I feel like I don’t care enough about that show, haven’t even seen season 2. Kimmy Schmidt hasn’t even aired season 2, but situations and jokes from season 1 have remained with me for almost a year now in ways that Modern Family, Jackie, Girls, Sillicon Valley and Transparent never did or never will be able to do.

I personally prefer Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt to Veep, Transparent, Nurse Jackie, 30 Rock, Girls and Modern Family, but I am uncomfortable calling it a great show.

Well Arrested Development is my favorite comedy of all time so….

After that, I’d say Veep is a close second, Silicoln Valley not far beind, then 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. The others I either dont watch (Nurse Jackie) or dont care for (Modern Family and Girls)

Hard to really pit Kimmy Schmidt or Transparent up already with 1-2 seasons to judge so I went with 30 Rock and easily could have picked Nurse Jackie too which both had 7 magnificent seasons
