The best and smartest part of this episode was finally fleshing out Bonnie’s background after numerous hints and subtextual clues. Also, I LOVED the indication that Bonnie doesn’t actually love Nathan because when Nathan showed up at the hospital I was reminded of how weird I thought it was that they were together.
This season doesn’t feel like it’s winding down to me. Madeline, Jane and Renata’s storylines have been bumped for Celeste’s and it feels like these past two episodes haven’t had many meaningful developments for either of those three’s stories. So in that way, it feels like there’s not really going to be any sort of climax for any storyline that isn’t Celeste’s or Bonnie’s.
Also, are they going to get caught in the lie or not? It seems like Bonnie’s going to confess but even if she doesn’t, Quinlan seems to know everything. All of them, but especially Madeline, are really bad liars lmao. To be honest, I’m not sure how much it matters if they got caught or not. If they don’t, the season might feel incomplete but with all of this custody drama going on, whether or not they get caught or not seems not really to be relevant to the emotional arcs of the characters.Marcus Snowden (The Artist Formerly Known as msnowden1)ParticipantJuly 14, 2019 at 7:15 pm #1202975146
Zoe Kravitz more than deserves an Emmy nomination after this episode.July 14, 2019 at 7:20 pm #1202975154
My poor Shailene has been sidelined all season.
I’m still not convinced that Zoe Kravitz is that great of an actress. I think she’s done a good job, and her hospital scene was very well done, but I’m not sure if I would nominate her.
I actually think that if Meryl Streep has juicy stuff to do in the finale (which she definitely will) then I think she can take the buzz that Laura Dern took from her and be a frontrunner for the Emmy.July 14, 2019 at 8:05 pm #1202975175
I don’t know but I couldn’t care less about Bonnie and her past lol. Like anytime, they cut to her in the hospital I’m just like ohhh not this again. Kravitz is good, but hardly nomination worthy. The one part about her storyline that finally interested me was her indication that she settled with Nathan. I’d like that to be explored.
Kidman was MVP again and she would make a worthy winner (I know, it’s early but still). She was extraordinary in the court room scenes to the point where it was difficult to watch this mother go through what she was going through. And the shame behind it. Next weeks stand off with Streep is going to be huuuuge.
Oh and also, if Streep wins any award for this over Dern and Woodley, I’ll riot.July 14, 2019 at 8:33 pm #1202975187
Is anyone else having problems with HBO not working tonight?July 14, 2019 at 8:49 pm #1202975200
I completely forgot this was on until an hour ago lol. Witherspoon is too good for the limited material she’s getting, but damn does she kill it regardless. “It doesn’t fit, but we’re not talking about that,” lol. Ugh, Woodley was so good in that scene with Streep and yet she has a good chance of being snubbed everywhere but CC and maybe the Emmys because of her limited material. LAURA DERN, YOU SLAY ME!
In regards to Bonnie, I’m so glad that she finally admitted that she wasn’t in love with Nathan (I mean who would want to be?), and that hospital scene and monologue ending with her mother’s tear was so amazing. This was Kravitz’ best episode, though I don’t know if it was the script or what, but I was expecting some big breakdown/reaction during that monologue, not something as subdued. That being said, I still think Kravitz was great and an Emmy nom is justified.
Streep better get some huge moment next episode to back-up the sweep she’s about to get, otherwise, they really should’ve just hired a lesser-known actress because she is too famous for this role to get any kind of reaction from me. Now Kidman, wow, she was amazing this episode. I couldn’t get enough of her. Her scenes had me like that Kim Kardashian meme but without tears lol. I really want (need) her to win the Emmy. Can’t wait for the finale.

My HBO wasn’t working that great through Amazon prime. It was dropping sound or something like that. I thought it was my Prime app.
I just can’t get it to play anything. Through the HBO now app on my roku tv. It gets to the shows rating and then says it can’t play it at this time. I’m gonna reinstall the app, hopefully that works.July 14, 2019 at 9:17 pm #1202975216
This season is depressing me with its lack of energy and fun.July 14, 2019 at 9:18 pm #1202975218
I really liked Kravitz in this episode, but she’s still the least deserving of the actresses (which I guess is like being the worst player on the NBA All-Star team). I’m glad Kravitz got material, but also annoyed because I think it might’ve derailed Shailene’s nomination chances (theres no way they get four nominations in one category).
I’m annoyed with the plot bringing up new narratives with an episode to go. Gordon is unfaithful? We’ve spent two seasons dealing with how that affected Madeline’s marriage and now there’s an episode left to see how Renata deals with that not to mention the debt situation? Bonnie was abused and settled for her husband and yet her storyline for the season has mostly been vague flashbacks and her looking unhappy? Also, did we just drop the Madeline’s daughter and college situation?July 14, 2019 at 9:29 pm #1202975224
She silences people via tissue paper now. Iconic.July 14, 2019 at 10:52 pm #1202975273
LAURA DERN. What a season she just had.July 14, 2019 at 11:46 pm #1202975296
I think Laura, Nicole and Meryl will get in at SAG and maybe Reese too. 4 nominees? Insane, but I can see it happening, with the 5th being Olivia Colman and winning due to vote-splitting.July 15, 2019 at 2:12 am #1202975376
This episode was so good imo. Nicole killed it. Too much things are going on though lmao we could have done without Gordon’s infidelity. With the custody case, Madeline’s cheating, Abigail’s college, Elizabeth’s heart attack, the bankruptcy, Bonnie and Nate, Jane’s trauma and her relationship with Corey… they have a thousand subplots to solve in one hour.
Oh and Im calling it. Meryl Streep in the finale will be one of the best TV performances of all time.
