Maybe Dern’s character will get more of a backstory and more to do now that it won an Emmy. I could see her getting in in a Supporting Actress category without any GoT actresses.

The only thing she’s getting is a teacher to fight with.

So disappointing they are doing this. I’ll be shocked if this is great. And to be clear, I thought the first season was just solid not amazing. There was some boring stretches, which is a big issue for a 7-episode series. Feud should have won at the Emmys.

Woodley should be gone. There’s no way there’s more story to tell with her. One of the most enjoyable parts of this was Dern vs Witherspoon after they played mother and daughter in Wild. With the (corny) ending of season 1 with them all a squad, I don’t see how you recreate that cattiness. I really can’t see this working.

I don’t really mind. The mystery was never what I found most compelling about the first season. It could of course end up being crap. But whether it gets embraced by voters is strictly dependent on how critics and viewers respond to the second season. This minor backlash for right now won’t matter much at all.

I am concerned with “turning” Woodley’s character into a lesbian. It fits the stereotype of sexual assault/abuse equating to “kinks” or being grossed out by/hating men or homosexuality. And they never hinted towards gay leanings in the first season. If they’re gonna go there they really need to legitimately “go there”. Otherwise, it’ll just come off as “we have a cast of women who are mostly white and heterosexual. Gotta turn one of them lezzie for the sake of ‘diversity” situation.

I took sofan’s post about Woodley becoming a lesbian as a joke.

Possibly is a joke, especially since getting those types of specific production details this early is unlikely. However, this is ultimately a high-end yet unabashed soap, and that situation is still a pervasive stereotype. I’m just saying if they’re gonna go down that route (and they probably will with some character at some point) then they need to be mindful of stuff like that and be willing to have the balls to thoroughly and legitimately examine things. Plus, they already have one strike with that token and cliched background gay couple.

    • A new employee in the school administration office who befriends Jane (Shailene Woodley). Eventually, the two women learn about each other’s “deepest secrets.”

This is from Vulture, considering every woman in the cast knows Jane was raped by Perry, I don’t know what would they learn about each other, other than that both of them have romantic/sexual inclinations about women, particularly each other.

Kyle Buchanan also thinks in a similar way as well.

I mean, really Jane doesn’t need a new friend now that even Reneta befriended her. Then again, she was almost getting it on with that barista, so who knows maybe they become a throuple

She and the bartender seemed endgame, but whatever.

I wonder if Hong Chau returns for Season 2, if they continue showing people from the town in any way.

Or Santiago Cabrera since he has starring role on Salvation.

I wonder if Alexander Skarsgard does anything awards-worthy so he gets nominated for Guest Actor, if he returns.

Wow, so S2 might be the only season to come out of the miniseries. It better be good!

So they’re making this for money as always, both Reese & Nicole will earn 1m$ for each ep (excluding producing profits), with Zoe Kravitz making a deal of 3m$ for all 7 eps. I wonder what Shailene Woodley and Laura Dern will get paid, I guess maybe 3.5-4m for Woodley and 4-5m for Dern.
