Netflix really seems to be extremely hated among some academy members. I mean, that anonymous voter literally said he wouldn’t vote for a Netflix show even if it was the best of the line up. I really don’t understand this hate tbh. But unfortunately it seems like Netflix still has long road ahead. Hopefully it finally wins a best series Emmy with The Crown next year (or another show).

It must not feel great for Netflix specifically since them putting Schitt’s Creek on their platform was one of the main reasons Schitt’s Creek could do the sweep that it did. Though, maybe they’ll kinda consider it a victory for themselves?

Regardless, the execs at Netflix are definitely going to have a lot of awards discussions after its underperformance at the Oscars and Emmys this year. They’ve basically bought out all the upcoming hyped films so if they still can’t win much at next year’s Oscars, I’m going to be very confused about what they could be doing wrong.

Neflix doesn’t know how to follow through in the home-stretch with campaigning. It’s not enough to just to throw your billions around for the latest, hottest properties and then neglect to “sell” said properties to Academy voters. Their primary focus is to be everything to all subscribers and pitch a huge tent, but they clearly crave awards to a desperate degree (even place trophies in headquarters lobby). Something will need to change stat if they really want the big wins.

Lol imagine if they decide to award This is Us next year the Series prize in a barren field even if The Crown is undeniable simply because they don’t want to award Netflix…

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", GLENN CLOSE FOR "HILLBILLY ELEGY", ANTHONY HOPKINS FOR "THE FATHER", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

This is so true. I mean this is what Amazon did when it won Comedy Series (providing a focused campaign on Maisel).

I mean, in 2018, they had nothing else to focus on given their 0 other major noms. And then in 2019, they had the top 2 Comedy Series contenders which didn’t stop one from dominating and the other from still taking multiple majors.

So there’s not really a lesson there for Netflix. The passion from voters just doesn’t seem to be there.

They did have Transparent although to be fair they weren’t going to focus on that after the Tambor scandal.
