    Official trailer right here. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IW3T7GEHs_8

This season will premiere on Netflix on September 14th. Awfully late time to release the trailer in my opinion, but I liked what I saw.

I hope it ends soon because I’m not sure how much more depression I could take. It is a brilliantly made, smartly written show. It’s depth is astounding but please don’t draw this show out.

I just think the character development is getting used up quickly and the writers are running out of fresh new directions to take these characters. Plus, the political commentary has gotten less subtle and more in-your-face than ever, for the worse in my opinion since for every topical “issue of the episode” they go with they could be focusing instead on fleshing out the core cast of characters.

This is the best show on TV, I can’t wait for the fifth season. Season 4 showed no signs of that they’re running out of ideas.

This is the best show on TV, I can’t wait for the fifth season. Season 4 showed no signs of that they’re running out of ideas.

With Bojack and his “sister” basically. I was personally let down by the Hollyhock storyline, but I respected what the writers were trying to do with those 2, humanize Bojack a little more by giving him a lifeline in the form of a kindred soul, though obviously not a romantic one or something more cliched like that. That’s how I interpreted it. The Todd storyline is going nowhere. Those insane clowns in the words were the low point of last season for me due to their overtly silly presence being a jarring tonal shift from all the hardcore dramatic stuff, and vice versa. I want Todd to be written out at the end of next season, I feel like he has served any purpose he had. Maybe he can return as a Guest star for the final season. I’m betting Diane and Mr. Peanutbutter break up, judging by the note their storyline ended on last season. I also haven’t forgotten Bojack stealing the “D” from the Hollywood sign and Mr. Peanutbutter took credit. I have been patiently waiting for that story thread to get brought back up again since Season 1, it has always felt like an emotional bomb waiting to drop at any point. Also, the Mr. Peanutbutter getting into politics didn’t go anywhere interesting in my book. If you found it funny, especially the underground episode then I get it, it just didn’t pay off satisfyingly for me on any comedic or emotional character development level. Finally, with Princess Carolyn I feel like she actually has the most story potential left in her of all the lead characters, with her trying to figure out her direction in life. I didn’t love “Ruthie” as much as some others did, but dammit Amy Sedaris (who got robbed of an Emmy nod this year in my opinion) is just so perfect at selling this complicated character. I feel like she would do great with her own spin-off. With all the others to varying degrees (especially Todd though) I feel like the show is spinning its wheels hinting at deep long-lasting change when not much happens in the big picture. Season 3 is my favorite because it felt the most balanced in its lighthearted comedy, dark and depressing drama, social commentary, and character development. Season 4 I just kind of coasted by on. I can’t say I hated it at all, I just feel like the gap between “Comedy Bojack” and “Drama Bojack” was more noticeable and tonally uneven than ever before. “Time’s Arrow” by itself was great and Emmy-worthy though, I would have nominated it for Picture Editing over “Alligator Man” from Atlanta. Just my opinion, of course.

Here is how I rank all 4 Bojack Horseman Seasons so far with my having seen every single episode.

3 (The best batting average in regards to hits vs. misses in any Bojack Season to date in my view.)

1 (A solid and interesting start that starts off really fun but slowly slides into the serious dark heart that now has come to define the show as a whole for many fans. “The Telescope” especially was perfectly done.)

2 (I switch back and forth between this one and 3 as my least favorite. I actually temporarily quit Bojack after episode 8 of this season because I was so fed up with the stupidity of some of the humor and the lack of nuance I saw with many characters. Thankfully, my brother convinced me to keep going with it and I’m really glad I did. The final episode was just okay with Todd trying to escape that improv cult on the ship at sea, but the episode before that was so devastatingly dark it made the journey one I did not regret.)

4 (This season was a way easier binge than 2 was, but it just kind of happened for me. Even what was without a doubt the best episode “Time’s Arrow” wasn’t as moving for me as “That’s Too Much, Man” from Season 3. This is my least favorite simply due to it being the least memorable. At least 2 had “Brand New Couch” along with a couple others like “The Shot” and “Chickens” to make it stand out more in my memory.)

BoJack and American Vandal returning the same day is perfect.

Netflix is the best! Seriously, like HBO in their prime by this point.

Actually, I’m Team HBO, if that’s a thing. I watch only a handful Netflix shows, while HBO had only a few ones that didn’t catch my interest.

Interesting. Netflix has way too many shows in my opinion, so while they have more shows that I love than HBO, they also inevitably wind up having more that I don’t watch or have watched and disliked than HBO as well. Sometimes, less is more. Game of Thrones, The Wire, The Sopranos, The Leftovers, (for some people I know) The Deuce, Veep, and so many other classics from just that single great network, truly impressive.

Netflix is relying too much on the quantity over quality concept, they want a wider audience. I hope the AT&T acquisition won’t force HBO to produce more shows annually.

I can’t wait for the funeral eulogy episode. Supposed to just be Will Arnett as BoJack giving a speech. You just know that he will be great and Emmy-worthy as will the script for Comedy Series Writing, both will get snubbed, just like it will be snubbed for Animated Program again. Dammit. At least the show is respected by the Goldderby TV Awards and WGA Awards.

Six Feet Under deserves a mention by name. It is one of their greatest show ever. Sad the Emmys were so fixated on The West Wing at that point.
