The Sopranos for sure. It was consistently great throughout. No other show has had a similar grip on the writing, direction and acting aspects. Not awarding it the top prize more than twice is one of the biggest mistakes the Emmys have made. Even with the plethora of awards it won, I always felt it was underrewarded.

The Wire > The Sopranos > Breaking Bad

To be more specific: The Wire > Twin Peaks > Mad Men > The Sopranos > The Americans > The Leftovers > Six Feet Under > Breaking Bad.

The Sopranos for me. Easily my favorite show, and the subject matter isn’t something that I thought would appeal to me. But the direction, music, plot, acting-everything is so perfect and timeless.

My pick would be The Wire. But I’d put Mad Men ahead of The Sopranos and Breaking Bad.

Come on this is easy, it’s The Wire. I admit I haven’t finished The Sopranos but through the first 3 seasons, I just don’t understand what people love about it so much. It’s a good show but from what I’ve seen I wouldn’t put it on the same level as shows like The Wire, Breaking Bad, The Leftovers or Mad Men.

If you remove all sentiment, The Wire is probably the best. The Sopranos is timeless though. Breaking Bad is a level below. I don’t know why this comparison is still so contested when we have recent classics like The Americans and The Leftovers that are on the same level.

The Wire I find extremely overrated.

The Sopranos and Breaking Bad are both in my top 5, with BrBa ranked a little bit higher. I like BrBa more but objectively I think The Sopranos is the better show.

I like The Wire the most, but they all have their strengths. Breaking Bad is the most intense and has the best character development. The Sopranos was groundbreaking and has the best family dynamics of the three. And I would say The Wire is the most ambitious and substantive in regards to its themes and messaging. But of those three, I think The Wire is the type of show that few have been able to even try to replicate. That kind of storytelling, I don’t really see it on television outside of David Simon’s other work.
