The IFC comedy starring Hank Azaria airs tonight. It currently has an 81 on Metacritic and an 86 on RT. Critics seem to like this.

I doubt this’ll be a contender since it is in IFC, but the Emmys love Hank Azaria so he could possibly be a dark horse.

Fred Armisan managed to get in a few years back for Porlandia which airs on IFC and Azaria is SUCH an Academy favorite I could see it happening, particularly since comedy lead actor isn’t exactly brimming with possibilities.

So I watched th first two episodes and… eh. First of all, the opening scene was hilarious. But after that it is totally boring. Hank Azaria is being way too hammy. Amanda Pete is boring and the rest of the cast is nothing special. It’s not a bad show but it should not get any awards. I hope Azaria doesn’t get a nomination over the many more deserving nominees. My grade: C

I haven’t laughed this much during an episode of TV in quite a while. “Rally Cap” had me in stitches with the killer opening and the fattest baseball players scene. I can’t wait for more. Hank Azaria should definitely be in the conversation come Emmy time. He’s likely a longshot with the show airing on IFC, but it’s never that wise to completely discount someone the voters have loved in the past for several different projects. So, here’s hoping.

    Already renewed! 🙂

    Score: A+

IFC included episodes 4, 6, 7 and 8 on their flash drive to Emmy voters.

Isn’t it weird to include the last episodes and not the first? If I was an emmy voter getting this I probably wouldn’t even bother watching because I wouldn’t want to start in the middle. It’s probably just me.

I’m surprised they didn’t send out the pilot because the cold open is hilarious and is Azaria’s baitiest scene. They did include episode 6 though, which is both the funniest episode and Amanda Peet’s showcase.
