I looked back and couldn’t see a thread for this (let me know if I missed it). But I thought it would be fun to speculate about what actress should play the new slayer (whether it’s a “Buffy” reboot or a brand new slayer as has been suggested by Monica Owusu-Breen). There are so many black actresses I can think of off the top of my head who would be great for the part, like Tessa Thompson or Samira Wiley. I know, they’re busy with other shows, but regardless of availability who would be on your dream casting list for the new slayer?

I hope they look at unknowns for the part. But I think Zazie Beetz, Tessa Thompson, Sasha Lane, Letitia Wright, or Kiersey Clemons have the chops. Just not Zendaya.

I feel strongly it should feature a newer, up-and-coming actress, but if they want to go with a more known name, I would not mind Tessa Thompson or Letitia Wright. Whoever they cast, though, a spinoff would be infinitely better than a reboot. SMG is far too iconic as Buffy for the character to just be recast. They should really just follow the life of one of the past Slayers, or one of the new Slayers that was called after the series finale, since they introduced that mechanic anyway. It would also fit easily with a contemporary setting.

smg was a teen when the original show started, so I don’t think thirtysomethings should populate the cast

Does Buffy work at an office, because Tessa Thompson is turning 35.

I was literally about to type “Tessa Thompson” when I saw the title of this thread, then I saw you already suggested her! She kicked ass as Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok. She deserves to play this iconic role. Great minds think alike.

Age is only a number, Cicely Tyson could play Buffy for all I care. She still kicks ass in my book, even in her 90’s! Plus, Thompson looks younger than 35 in my opinion.

Don’t call it ‘Buffy’ for one thing. Try Vampire Slayer: The New Generation.

Are you serious? I was joking at first but I actually like the idea the more I have thought about it.

I was definitely joking. However, I would undeniably watch it if it happened, which it would never.
