Well the new abc family drama is created by the team behind the gilmore girls starring 2 time tony Winner Sutton Foster as Michelle an ex-las vegas dancer who then moves to Paradise (town) after getting married.
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS.June 12, 2012 at 5:00 am #246162
I actually enjoyed the show and was really looking forward to it as I have been a fan of Sutton Foster after seeing her in shows like “The Drowsy Chaperone” and “Anything Goes”.
It has the trademark rapid banter that the “Gilmore Girls” was famous for, and Ms. Foster masters it and is also very natural and charming on camera. I would love if she got awards attention based on this pilot, but we still have seven more episodes to go.
I won’t say any spoilers but I had a certain suspicion about a certain plot point based on the credits and reading the plot description….however I wasn’t expecting them to do it at the end of this episode, so I am shocked and it left me more intrigued to keep watching beyond Sutton Foster and the great Kelly Bishop.
Some of the lines were great, esp. the IHOP cashier line and when Sutton knocks over Kelly Bishop’s Buddha statue and prayer area and she tries to straighten it out and says something along the lines of “She can still pray, right?”. Good start (with a huge twist) to a promising new show.June 22, 2012 at 11:02 pm #246163
I caught up on the first 2 episodes this morning. As I normally watch Gilmore girls repeat at that time on ABC Family, I figured I would give it a shot. I highly recommend this show to anyone that loved Gilmore Girls. Never mind the familiar music, the small town feel or that this was created by ASP, this is a really fun show. Sutton foster is fantastic. My favorite thing about this show is Kelly Bishop. Reminded me again what a crime it was she never won, let alone was never nominated for an Emmy for Gilmore girls. She’s still got it. In the trusting hands of Amy, this show will continue to delight week in and week out.June 23, 2012 at 11:02 am #246164
I saw the second episode. It’s… cute with potential to be more than that if the characterization becomes stronger and the tone becomes a lil less quirky. There’s no dynamic performance at the center to hold it all together like what Graham did on ‘Gilmore’, and I slightly resent ASP’s refusal to stop going knee first in a well-worn well. But it is… cute.June 23, 2012 at 5:32 pm #246165
Well, Graham wasn’t so amazing from the very first two episodes. Just like the rest of “Gilmore Girls”, she got better as the season went on. She did find herself in the role very quick, but it was around episode six or seven that she was doing really strong work instead of just being the best one in cast still finding their foot in the material. I think Foster is doing well enough, and has the potential to get even better at this role. I also think the show improved a lot on the average pilot, but it still has long ways to go to become something actually special.June 24, 2012 at 12:20 pm #246166
I´m big Gilmore Girls fan but Bunheads did nothing for me. I think it´s trying too hard to be “cute” but it really miss the heart that Gilmore girls had. After two episodes I really don´t care for any of the characters.June 25, 2012 at 7:37 am #246167
I completely disagree about Graham. She did some of her best work in that ‘Gilmore’ pilot. She was the best thing about that show from the beginning. Lorelai was an instantly indelible character. The rest of the series took a few episodes to find itself, but her and Bishop were on the money right away. This Lorelai clone isn’t doing much for me yet. She needs to calm it down with the facial expressions for starters.
‘Gilmore’ gave us tensions and strong character dynamics right away. It wasn’t perfect from the get-go, but the characters and their world left an immediate impression. Bunheads so far is quirk first, character and story second, which is what Gilmore girls was like in the worse of its latter years. Two episodes is hardly enough to give full praise or hate towards a series, especially one like this. I will stick with it for at least a couple of more installments.June 26, 2012 at 10:37 am #246168
This show was not so cute.June 26, 2012 at 3:02 pm #246169
I really like this show. I’ve never really watched Gilmore Girls because…I think the show was honestly a little before my time (my friends who are the same age would disagree). I actually remember watching the show with my sister when I was very young and being a little amused at the dinner scenes with Kelly Bishop. I also love A Chorus Line. So I was excited for this show because of Bishop and because I think Sutton Foster is one of the greatest Broadway performers (and became famous thoroughly through Broadway and nothing else).
Although after ABC Family cancelled Make it Or Break it (and, even worse, 10 Things I Hate About You), I didn’t think I could watch another ABC Family show. And this has been getting very low ratings. But I’ll keep watching because I’ve actually liked this show a lot. I think the “chemistry” between Bishop and Sutton is entertaining. And…I dunno, I like dancing. I think the show is taking too long to “get to the point”. We’re 3 episodes in and we’re still not there. I also think a lot of scenes are very wordy. I know that’s Palldino’s style, but I think, if the show continues past 10 episodes, she should consider toning it down a bit. During the third episode I kept thinking to myself “OMG. This whole conversation only needs two sentences.” Sometimes it’s cute and endearing. But other times it’s like “enough, get on with it!” And the girls do nothing for me yet…except for the fat one because I guess you could consider her inspiring.
But, again, I’m watching and digging this show. It’s getting low numbers, but I really hope it will somehow last.August 6, 2012 at 10:48 am #246170
The ninth episode will be called ‘No One Takes Khaleesi’s Dragons’ LOLAugust 14, 2012 at 4:55 am #246171
This show may be on ABC Family but out of all these episodes I have really loved watching Sutton Foster on this show as it is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. In this episode she says the name of the episode in one quick scene showing on this show is in connect with social media. The storylines of the young girls does not interest me at all especially the two that are not Sasha and Boo (who are not really great either). The Foster storyline involved getting a mall build was great maybe not as good as past but I feel like the girl who plays Sasha is starting the mature into her final character by going through different experinces.

BUMP! Why does no one talk about this show because really there is nothing else on Monday nights. I ask what is everyone watching on Mondays?
