I know this may seem silly considering both Maisel and Schitt’s are here but there seems to be lots of passion for the show and Issa Rae, it’s HBO’s main push and it is helped by the social situation. Plus it did quite well on nominations morning.
What do we think?

July 30, 2020 at 2:22 pm #1203616184It can win cinematography and that’s it. But maybe they can win something bigger or even series for future seasons. I’m currently on series 3 and Issa Rae is fantastic, I hope she wins someday but I highly doubt she will have the egde over O’Hara this year.

Uh-hum.
Maybe it can also win editing since it was nominated at ACE.

Applegate got in over her last year

July 30, 2020 at 2:34 pm #1203616232To answer the question though, I keep waiting for something to win series through passion ever since we moved to the plurality vote (Atlanta over Veep, Drag Race over The Voice, This is Us over The Handmaid’s Tale, The Americans over Game of Thrones) and it just never happens. Passion indeed drives individual wins, but you still need broad consensus for series, which Insecure does not quite have, given its writing, directing and sound snubs. I have it third.

True, but now Applegate has to worry about vote splitting and her show completely underperformed missing easy noms like editing (which was nominated at the guild). Rae’s show has plenty of buzz and overperformed big, she’s easily ahead of Applegate and *maybe* Brosnahan.

July 30, 2020 at 2:39 pm #1203616251Heh, poor Anthony Anderson and Don Cheadle.
Yeah, poor Don Cheadle, 4 out of 5 possible noms for a show that no one watched or cared for – House of Lies, and now 2 noms for another show that no on is watching or cares for – Black Monday, will he manage another two noms for it or Showtime will cancel it before that? What a great incognito.

“Drag Race” has won over “The Voice” multiple times on the plurality vote.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 30, 2020 at 3:59 pm #1203616567Yes, but it took until its second year of widespread nominations for it to topple it finally. I was just referring to that first year, but I suppose that it was wrong to lump it in with the others that had clear nomination deficits.

But I think Lead Actress is wide open.
