Yes, but it took until its second year of widespread nominations for it to topple it finally.  I was just referring to that first year, but I suppose that it was wrong to lump it in with the others that had clear nomination deficits.

Can it win? yes. Will it? No. Schitt’s Creek looks like it will take it in its final bow.

But I think Lead Actress is wide open.

    Issa might surprise.

I would love it if that happened. Unfortunately, she would have to beat two heavyweights to do so. She’s probably in 3rd right now.

Its best chance for a win anywhere is in Editing since Maisel has won once and lost once, and Schitt’s Creek could vote split. I also have Orji in 3rd behind Murphy and Borstein.

Music Supervision or Cinematography would be really inspired choices, but they’re very tough categories. I’m a bit frustrated to see The Mandalorian competing against comedies in the latter.

No matter what, at least it’s well and truly on the Emmy radar now. Rae is a safe bet to win at some point in its run.

If Insecure wins anywhere in the main ceremony, it will be for Orji, since O’Hara and Schitt’s are strong front runners and I have a hard time seeing Borstein winning a third year in a row.

I think Lead Actress is the likeliest of it’s wins by far

Issa Rae wins Lead Actress Comedy way before her show wins Comedy Series.

And that could happen this year

The show can’t win Comedy Series, but Issa Rae can win Lead Actress Comedy.

Just to say for Borstein that whilst I don’t want her to win and think she’s on shaky ground it’s worth reminding people that she still got an individual citation at SAG this year and beat out Sian Clifford (who let’s face it should have won CC) at CC awards.

It just can’t win without directing and writing nominations.

Issa could win in another year, but this year O’Hara has the lethal combination of being a veteran actress, having enormous buzz and acclaim for her performance, being overdue for the performance (and in general), and being in the likely Comedy Series winner. She has too much going in her favour.

What confuses me about Insecure though is the fact that it got into Casting without getting a directing nomination and got in over Ramy there. This makes me feel that they have directing support but were screwed out of a nomination due to how many episode they submitted (5!)

However I do agree the writing snub is inexplicable.

I do want to say something though. I think we’re giving Catherine O’Hara’s overdue narrative a bit too much here. We saw last year how Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Sandra Oh had the best ‘veteran actress’ and ‘overdue’ narratives possible but still lost. I think if anyone from Schitt’s has a narrative that can propel them to an acting win it’s Dan Levy (who has a similar narrative to Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Bill Hader last year).

Wait how did JLD have an overdue narrative? If anything she had the opposite of that given she had won 6 times!!!

Also like I said, it’s not JUST the veteran status and the overdue factor. She also has the performance (which Oh, unfortunately, did not last year) and will be in the likely Series Winner (which neither Oh or Dreyfus were in)

As you can clearly see from what I said I mentioned that Oh had the overdue narrative and JLD had the “veteran performer last time narrative”. I wasn’t saying both had both.

Even if unlikely, any Insecure win would be incredibly refreshing. Rae and Orji would be iconic winners

Chromatica and Fetch the Bolt Cutters AOTYs yeah
