Trailer dropped today, and the show debuts May 29: Looks encouraging 🙂

March 11, 2020 at 11:21 am #1203378368This gives me Bob Burgers vibes and I really find that show to be hit or miss so I’m gonna skip this one

OK, “Turd”,
2 Tony winners from Hamilton;
Bob’s Burgers creators behind it;
Stanley Tucci;
Josh Gad;Pretty damn good from here.
2020-21 Emmy contender in comedy categories.
Not everything is just KB with me.

But if Bell was replaced with Phoebe Waller-Bridge, you’d call this show shit before watching a single second of it.

Nope; 2 dudes from the best musical of this century offset any PWB involvement.

Broadcast TV’s goose, I believe, is already cooked. Look at the decline in nominations and awards over the years from the Emmys and Globes. It would be nice this year, and a compelling storyline it would be, if the last 2 broadcast jewels (TGP and This is Us) were able to hold off the tsunami of streaming shows dominating the comedy and drama genres one final time at the Emmys.
Once the former is gone, what other comedy is there on the Big 4 in 2020-2021 to stem the streaming tide? I hope the Schur/Bell collaboration happens. Until it does, this is the end of her on-screen TV career. The two gigs she has are voiceover-only, which means she can spend more time with her daughters.
Am I asking much, at the end of the day? Angela Lansbury was nominated for 17 career Emmys and never won. Bell is in her 15th year of being a major TV star and has never been *nominated*. Is that a bridge too far for the Academy who has never recognized her excellence? They have one last chance to redeem themselves July 14.

This makes no sense to me because I would trust any project with PWB over Kristen Bell, at this point.

Funny how you do nothing but defend broadcast TV, but once Bell does a streaming show you say it’s dead.
Also, Kristen Bell is no Angela Lansbury.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 14, 2020 at 9:39 pm #1203381648Huh? Name one time I’ve said that. I will pair KB and Lansbury together because of their collective Emmy futility. No comparison of their acting skills was intended. But you already knew that, I believe.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/25/entertainment/kristen-bell-central-park-leaving/index.html
“This is a time to acknowledge our acts of complicity. Here is one of mine. Playing the character of Molly on Central Park shows a lack of awareness of my pervasive privilege. Casting a mixed race character with a white actress undermines the specificity of the mixed race and Black American experience. It was wrong and we, on the Central Park team, are pledging to make it right. I am happy to relinquish this role to someone who can give a much more accurate portrayal and I will commit to learning, growing and doing my part for equality and inclusion.”
Also, actress Jenny Slate (?) departed the Netflix animated series Big Mouth for a similar reason.
