Cicely Tyson has been nominated for 14 Emmys, including this year for How to Get Away with Murder, throughout the course of her career. The TV projects she won and was nominated for are: The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman (won two Emmys), Roots, King, The Marva Collins Story, Oldest Living Conferedate Widow Tells All (won), Sweet Justice, A Lesson Before Dying, Relative Stranger & The Trip to Bountiful. Which projects she should’ve won an Emmy for?

She should have won in 2015 for HTGAWM. She was robbed because they decided to reward Margo Martindale for her cameo. And she will also be robbed this year again, where IMO she deserves it even more.

She was totally robbed for The Trip to Bountiful in 2014. That she also executive produced it and shepherded it to be filmed when she was on the cusp of 90, on top of a strong performance, really should have pushed her over the edge and certainly warranted a win over Jessica Lange for Coven. Many people say that her loss was because of anti-Lifetime bias, but that performance in that movie was so far and away beyond most Lifetime projects that I think voters could and should have gotten over any such bias that may have existed. I really thought she was going to retire after that, but I am so glad that she’s keeps popping up on HTGAWM every season. I think her work on House of Cards a couple of years ago was also Emmy worthy, and, sadly, she appeared to have split votes with her HTGAWM performance, as that is the only year she missed getting nominated since she’s been on the show.

I just tend to associate Tyson as the 2015 winner because Margo Martindale had absolutely no reason to triumph that year. Tyson was exceptional and honestly should have been the first black woman to complete her Triple Crown in 2013 since her performance in Sounder (1972) warranted a Best Supporting Actress win.

She absolutely should’ve won the guest actress trophy in “15 for ‘Mama’s Here Now’ she was magnificent! Sadly, she’ll LIKELY lose again for an EVEN BETTER performance in ‘Lahey v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’.

I saw Tyson in The Gin Game with James Earl Jones like a year or so ago. I thought it’d just be a play about two elderly people finding each other in a group home…but no…it was DARK and not feel-good at all. Jones was great, as always, and has a big presence, but Tyson was AMAZING. She was over 90 years old, and yet was so energetic and her voice carried so well in the theater. She was like a woman many decades younger.

Cicely should have won Guest Actress in 2015 for her powerhouse submission on How To Get Away With Murder.

I saw Cicely Tyson back in 2013 for Trip To Bountiful and she was very good. I do agree that if she went supporting for Sounder that she would have won the Oscar. The kid is the true lead in that film.

Honey, they be shading the fuck out of Cicely Tyson. She deserved to win Drama Guest Actress in 2015 and 2017. She also deserved to win in 2014.
