Alexis Bledel really did earn that award.
Of THT’s eight wins last year, I feel that one was the most deserving. Absolutely loved her performance. The stoning sequence in the finale and Emily’s van sequence were my two favourite moments from the show. Beautifully directed and acted.
“Late” (1.03) is my second favorite episode of the show and it’s because of Bledel’s performance and Emily’s van scene. I wish Reed Morano would return because she is incredible. Barker, Skogland, Podeswa and Reid are great as well but Morano started this show and created this unique style. The way the court scene and then the van scene were shot was incredible. I do think that Bledel outdid herself this year, which I didn’t expect. She was phenomenal in “Unwomen” and incredible in “The Word.” I was scared that after her acclaim for season 1 she would try too hard in season 2, but she didn’t. She bathes in that character and I so happy that she got this second nomination.

August 5, 2018 at 11:06 am #1202603088I actually found Kirby stronger in Season 1, with Foy really shining in Season 2.
THE OSCAR 100 (#25-21): Peter Sellers, Orson Welles, Montgomery Clift, Katharine Hepburn and Robert Forster

I just wanted to add that I don’t think these two are extraordinary performances; I think both are very good, that’s all. They would make good winners but not memorable ones. I thought Foy raised her level in season 2 and found her overall more convincing than Kirkby.

I will say I think Claire Foy get better season two ( if that’s even possible). Netflix is stupid for realasing it in December going back and watching these master performances is a real treat.

You either haven’t seen the series or are just plain dumb. Like not to bash your opinion but if either wins they will be very memorable wins because both careers are on steroids right now and the level of skill they bring to their craft is just astounding

Thanks for the very kind comment. I did watch the entire series, so I must be an idiot. Mine wasn’t even a negative post – i said they’re both good performances -, I don’t see any need to be aggressive.

Ignore him. Some users around here can’t see out of their own bubble enough to respect a differing view.

Calling someone dumb because they don’t agree with you is not right. I don’t agree with Marco’s opinion either, but that doesn’t make him dumb in any way. People have forgotten that you are allowed to have an opinion. Proof once again that these forums need moderators.

I actually thought Foy’s performance has been one of the best in a long time. If I may ask, which performances did you find extraordinary or memorable in recent years?

You just have to ask Teridax, lol! Yes, considering only these two categories I think Russell is much stronger overall than Foy and it’s a performance for the ages. I don’t watch enough television in comparison to the quantity of the offer, so I’m sure I’m missing many extraordinary performances but two I’m particularly fond of were offered by Amy Brenneman and Carrie Coon in The Leftovers.
