No. It may get all those nominations, but in no way is it this year’s Fleabag. Fleabag had so much buzz and so much passion that, in hindsight, there was no way it was not going to blow up at the Emmys. The Great is completely incomparable.

In that case then why do I see lots of people comparing Schitt’s Creek and Ozark to Fleabag when both shows aren’t in the exact same situation.

FYC Emmys : Jodie Comer ("Killing Eve"), Ruth Wilson ("His Dark Materials"), Russell Tovery ("Years and Years"), Helena Bonham Carter ("The Crown") & The Crown, His Dark Materials, Years and Years, Succession and The Affair in all categories. The Politician : Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrow, Bette Midler and Judith Light.

FYC Goldderby Awards : MAURA TIERNEY AND DOMINIC WEST FOR THE FINAL SEASON OF THE AFFAIR

It’s time to realize there won’t be a Fleabag situation this year lol.

An Ozark to Fleabag comparison is dumb tbh. The SC-Fleabag one holds some weight but not as much this forum believes.

I honestly find The Great comparison absurd but I’m interested why you made it because I fail to see any solid similarities between them.

Both aired in the final month of eligibility, were not strongly considered as contenders, had star status and were/are breakout hits

I’ve seen Schitt’s Creek being compared to Fleabag, but not Ozark. But even so, I think people are trying to point out the importance of passion. I think that’s the point trying to be made with such comparisons. But as Kelvin said, there will be no Fleabag this year.

Emmys FYC - "Unbelievable" and "The Handmaid's Tale" in all categories; Viola Davis in Best Drama Actress for the final season of "HTGAWM;" "Ozark:" Drama Series, Laura Linney (Best Actress) and Julia Garner (Best Supporting Actress)

Schitt’s Creek can be the Fleabag if it gets released on Netflix in the next month. Doesn’t look like that’s going to happen though.

Hulu actually got a comedy writing nomination this way just last year.

    Under the current system:

PEN15 submitted only their penultimate episode in writing last year and got nominated. The Crown submitted its penultimate for writing in 2017. Atlanta got two noms for writing in 2017 but didn’t submit either its pilot or its finale. The Crown was nominated for its second episode in directing. I’m not sure if the finale was submitted though.

Master of None was nominated for its second episode in writing and directing in 2016 and eventually won the former. Atlanta also was nominated for a middle episode in directing. I don’t know if they submitted their pilots/finales though. Probably they did in the latter’s case.

There are also shows like Ozark, THT in directing and Barry, Russian Doll in writing that got nominated for non-pilot/finale episodes but one of the pilot/finale was nominated alongside it so they don’t really fit your criteria.

Good to know these stuff. At least there have been a lot of instances that freshmen series have submit non-pilot/finale episode/s in these categories. As I have said, I actually prefer the second episode of The Great over its pilot for Writing. But looking forward to the other episodes most especially the ones written by McNamara and that Hulu got Pen15 last year in this writing means voters actually are watching. This bodes well, hopefully for The Great. Now let’s see what episode/s they will submit.

Schitt’s Creek is cute but i really don’t know how one can act like it’s anywhere near as groundbreaking or as refreshing as Fleabag.

Personal opinion aside, it just doesn’t have the same acclaim or the same popularity. There has been no sign showing that Schitt’s Creek is even going to be able to overcome The Good Place or The Marvelous Mrs Maisel.

Sure if you want to be properly pedantic about it they obviously aren’t the same. Fleabag is also British and Schitt’s Creek is Canadian. My point was that Schitt’s Creek could be a get a late breaking groundswell of passion that carries it all the way to the main ceremony just as Fleabag did.

I’m seeing The Good Place ending up a lot like Parks and Recreation. The parallels are unfortunately very similar. A light-hearted huge critical favorite from Michael Schur and NBC that never really gained huge traction at big awards despite a lot of public love (and even Parks did better at the Globes and SAG). Parks never got an acting nomination beyond its lead, Poehler, and I think that’s happening with Danson (except for guest). Carden strikes me a lot as an Offerman, the fan-favorite character who never ended up getting their dues despite the acclaim/popularity of their performance. TGP could end up surpassing Parks with a win or two just due to the state of this year’s race, but I’m not expecting much.

Schitt’s and Fleabag are trying to do two totally different things, so I’m not sure the comparison holds water. Just as a personal opinion, people acting like no scripted show had ever featured a character talking to the camera or breaking the fourth wall before Fleabag make me lol.

Also, in what way is The Good Place something for Schitt’s Creek to overcome when the latter has more passion behind it, more awards momentum in general, and will likely be a higher campaign priority at its respective studio/distributor? Not to mention The Good Place only being unable to get any lead or supporting players in aside from Ted Danson, a widely respected and beloved Hollywood veteran who’s worked with everybody.

I agree that the comparison doesn’t make much sense. Also, Fleabag was groundbreaking in other aspects than breaking the fourth wall lol. Just having a realistic, nuanced and vulnerable women at it’s center while exposing the taboos of sexuality and love and still managing to be extremely funny and naturalistic…

Also, in what way is The Good Place something for Schitt’s Creek to overcome when the latter has more passion behind it, more awards momentum in general, and will likely be a higher campaign priority at its respective studio/distributor? The whole point of my post was that nothing indicates that Schitt’s Creek is undeniable this year or has that much support. By the way, there are other categories than series. It’s not illogical to think The Good Place, a show that the writers branch has already embraced can win writing over Schitt’s Creek. It’s also not illogical to think Ted Danson can win over Eugene Levy. So yes, The Good Place is a show that Schitt’s Creek needs to overcome.

I would definitely put Schitts Creek above The Good Place. I love both but the amount of passion Schitts Creek has had is understandable people love the show and no ones really talking about The Good Place as a serious contender because they had their weakness season. So Creek is far above The Good Place it’s just so obvious and I think you’re just willfully ignoring the juggernaut it has become with fans.

So Creek is far above The Good Place it’s just so obvious and I think you’re just willfully ignoring the juggernaut it has become with fans.

And I think you are willfully ignoring the fact that having support from your own fandom is an extremely weak argument since Schitt’s Creek lost all the major industry awards it was nominated for so there’s no reason to believe this support translates to the Academy. Also, for the last time, I was not arguing that Schitts Creek is under the Good Place in series, I explained that.
