The amount of shows people are comparing to last years Fleabag is absurd.

Just adding my voice to the chorus of people saying there is no “Fleabag” this year. In recent memory, “Fleabag” and “The Handmaid’s Tale” are the only shows I can think of that popped up at the end of the eligibility period and absolutely stole all of their competitors’ thunder and stormed the field with a sweep. What made those shows significant was the lack of awards buzz prior to their arrival, and even in the case of “Fleabag,” many of us were predicting merely a PWB nod in Actress and Writing. Instead, it surpassed the massive buzz it had and permeated the race, and then blew us away even further when the buzz was actually recognized by voters and it won big.

There is no show doing that this year, and if you want to blame the global pandemic, so be it. The only show I can think of in the past few months that really surpassed initial expectations and garnered huge unexpected buzz is “Normal People.” “The Great” is the closest thing you have to that on the comedy side, but while the buzz is good, it is not undeniable.

So it’s the combination of making a huge impact when people weren’t expecting it, having a deafening level of buzz from the industry/critics/fans, and surprising everyone when that buzz actually results in nominations that makes a show a “Fleabag.” No one is a “Fleabag” this year.

Fleabag wasn’t just a show beloved by the academy. It was a international hit, everybody was talking and watching last year. People are still talking about the show. Chernobyl had a similar effect. There is no series like that in this emmy season.

And I think you are willfully ignoring the fact that having support from your own fandom is an extremely weak argument since Schitt’s Creek lost all the major industry awards it was nominated for so there’s no reason to believe this support translates to the Academy. Also, for the last time, I was not arguing that Schitts Creek is under the Good Place in series, I explained that.

Well at least Schitts Creek got nominations this awards season while The Good Place got nothing. And The Good place has won 2 major awards TCA for Achievement in Comedy and a Peabody so its not like it cleaned up with awards. Schitts Creek dominated the Canadian Screen Awards the other day after netting a record breaking 27 noms and O’Hara won her fifth Best Comedy Actress in a row she the Julia Louis-Dreyfus of Canada, she’s a national treasure for us here in Canada. But what I’m trying to say is even though the Schitts creek lost most of its industry awards it still showed up while the good Place was left out, which I think both are deserving but these are facts.

I don’t see any comedy sweeping this year. I think the main categories will be split between Maisel, Schitts and TGP.

Maisel- Supporting Actor, Guest Actor, Directing

The Good Place- Lead Actor, Guest Actress, Writing

    FYC Emmys-
    Limited-
UNBELIEVABLE, Quiz, Years and Years, Defending Jacob in all Categories
Merritt Wever, Toni Collette, Matthew Macfadyen, Emma Thompson, Chris Evans & Michelle Dockery

    Drama-
STRANGER THINGS, The Morning Show, Big Little Lies, The Crown, Killing Eve
    - Jennifer Aniston, VIOLA DAVIS, Jodie Comer, Sandra Oh, Nicole Kidman, Olivia Colman
    - FIONA SHAW, HBC

    Comedy-
SCHITTS CREEK, Dead to Me, Sex Education

The Good Place- Lead Actor, Guest Actress, Writing

Even though I like The Good Place, I don’t think it’s strong enough to win those categories.

I agree the show isn’t that strong, I could easily see Schitts taking Lead Actor and Writing as well tbh.

And likewise Maisel can take Series, Actress and Supporting Actress easily.

The Politician : Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrow, Bette Midler and Judith Light.

FYC Goldderby Awards : MAURA TIERNEY AND DOMINIC WEST FOR THE FINAL SEASON OF THE AFFAIR

Even though I like The Good Place, I don’t think it’s strong enough to win those categories.

I’ve thought over Levy vs Danson several times, and I keep coming to the same conclusion that people who vote for O’Hara will likely end up voting for Levy. Her performance is more popular, but the two of them have been a team for so long I can’t help but think a lot of people will want to see them win big together on the same night.

Also, Levy has the advantage of being in the show that, most people will agree, is the bigger contender. Will all that being said, I’ll be perfectly happy to see either one of those two win, as they’re both hysterical and effortlessly endearing.

A first-time nominee in Comedy Actor will have a pretty good chance of winning, I think. Levy seems like a default winner since I doubt they’ll go for The Good Place. Youssef could prevail, considering his Globe win and a new season airing in the right time.

Danson’s way overdue for an Emmy (27 years). Levy has 2 already.

A person and his money are soon parted. I think they will talk about Whenever You’re Ready for YEARS after it’s gone. Best comedy series finale since Newhart.

Catherine O’Hara has been overdue for an Emmy for 38 years which is actually almost as long as Kristen Bell has been alive…

Not only do Danson and Levy have the same exact number of Emmys, but Danson’s last win is a whole decade more recent than Levy’s. If we’re going by your logic that makes Levy more overdue.

Nobody’s talking about Whenever You’re ready now, left alone in years to come

Also, in what way is The Good Place something for Schitt’s Creek to overcome when the latter has more passion behind it, more awards momentum in general, and will likely be a higher campaign priority at its respective studio/distributor? Not to mention The Good Place only being unable to get any lead or supporting players in aside from Ted Danson, a widely respected and beloved Hollywood veteran who’s worked with everybody.

TGP has had to deal with broadcast network bias from the Emmys and that trickles down to the guilds as well. If it were on Netflix exclusively all 4 years, they’d be closing in on almost 80 total nominations (nearly 20/year on average). The Academy has given up on the belief broadcast comedies are just as much the equal as the streamers. And Schitt’s is better organized in the entertainment media community than TGP.
