It is listed as a comedy campaign priority, yet they are also not pushing it to us for interviews. Not saying that we would get Michael Douglas or Alan Arkin or even Chuck Lorre necessarily, but it is not like they are throwing us Lisa Edelstein or Sarah Baker or Andy Tennant or Al Higgins or the editor or the casting director or whoever else. Reiser seems to be the only one doing a press run right now.

Riley, do you think this means I can start to allow my hopes for Sex Education to rise a tad? It’s not listed as a priority on the FYC site, but you’ve done interviews with Ncuti Gatwa and Gillian Anderson and I saw Deadline posted one with Asa Butterfield earlier. I wasn’t sure if those interviews are being “pushed” as you described or not. But seeing Anderson and Butterfield pop up in the same day has me feeling more hopeful than I probably should be.

My personal opinion is that at this stage Netflix comedies shouldn’t be evaluated on whether they are a priority or not. Three of their priorities are (eventually became) nonstarters, and their FYC website won’t reflect a change in prioritization during this time. Many people are predicting Sex Education in writing which assumes that voters have seen the season, we know that it has huge ratings, so predicting it shouldn’t be a reach.

In light of Curb Your Enthusiasm‘s renewal, is this show immune to abandonment in terms of Emmy recognition?

This was definitely one of Curb Your Enthusiasm’s weaker seasons, but there’s no way that it’s missing in a field this barren.

Should I slot Andre Braugher or Marc Maron into my eighth slot?

Never thought I’d see Riley asking for help with his predictions.

Personally, I think they’re both within the realm of possibility, Braugher being nominated several times before and Marin getting in at the Globes and SAG for the first season.

However, I don’t think either will get in. Braugher hasn’t been nominated for the last three years, and Maron’s inability to get in despite a strong precursor run and his series being nominated makes me think that he’ll struggle to get in now that his series is no longer a priority for Netflix.

But if one makes it in, I believe it’ll be Braugher, as he’s on a more popular show, giving a more popular performance, he’s actually been nominated for this role before, and he’s a bigger and more respected name.

I think the show is taken for granted. I can count a number of shows that are more talked and people are passionate about that it can be left out. My point is that with this level of limited buzz aging shows are often dropped out. Even Modern Family didn’t last this long.

Should I slot Andre Braugher or Marc Maron into my eighth slot?

    Won’t there be seven nominees?

Braugher. He’s on a show that is more popular and is probably actually being campaigned for.

Right, submissions do seem to be down in comedy, so maybe I will not have to choose.

I thought people though this was one of the shows stronger seasons especially compared to the last season

Imagine how funny the meltdowns on here would be if neither Maisel or Schitt’s win Comedy Series.
