Both were from streaming services, not broadcast network. But you both already knew that. There is a profound difference.

They were not. BBC and CBC are broadcast networks. On the US they are distributed by cable/streaming, but originally they were made for broadcast and that’s what really matters.

The Good Place, where I live, aired weekly on Netflix. Do I think is a streaming show? No, because it was made to first fit on broadcast.

Fleabag was an Amazon show for American purposes, and thus was not a broadcast show but a streaming one. If we were talking about the BAFTAS it would be a different story. Schitts is a cable show for American purposes. In regards to the Emmys, an American award show, it is misleading to refer to either of them as broadcast as neither air on a broadcast network here, where the vast majority of the voting body resides.

But would it be fair to classify Schitt’s simply as cable and dismiss the fact it is made with the broadcast network sensibilities and restrictions and hence, would appeal to that demographic?

Maybe not, but you can get away with swearing on British and Canadian broadcast unlike on American.

Also, the “broadcast demographic” (the people ensuring NCIS and Young Sheldon are the most watched shows of their genre in America) is not what’s keeping Schitts Creek afloat.

I’ve been thinking about Comedy Series and how Dead to Me seems to be Netflix’s only real contender. That doesn’t make sense since they get at least a couple each year since 2015 (yes I know they only got Russian Doll last year). I don’t see Kominsky Method growing in noms. People have been in quarantine and watching a lot of Netflix, there has to be at least one other contender.

We know Sex Education, Never Have I Ever, and End of the Fucking World are popular and positively reviewed by critics, but they’re shows about teenagers and Emmy voters don’t go for those shows. I replaced Silicon Valley with Never Have I Ever for the time being because of Mindy Kaling’s name recognition and I don’t know what else from Netflix to put in.

I believed Never Have I Ever is one of Netflix’s most watched shows during the quarantine as well.

Imagine if Silicon Valley ends up getting back in despite us all underestimating it because it aired so long ago and clung on by a hair last time.

4×06 had me bawling every time she was on screen.

And if by some miracle if she gets in, that’s the episode she’ll be submitting according to her Twitter.

I was considering putting it in, but I thought I remember hearing it was absent from HBO’s FYC video which would mean it’s probably dead.

It was there but below Run, Insecure, Avenue 5 and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

In other news I have just taken out two time nominee Betty Gilpin for Emily Hampshire (for the first time). I think it makes less sense for me to be predicting 5 acting nominations for Succession and not 5 for Schitt’s Creek and I probably will regret taking Gilpin out when it comes to nomination day but I think Schitt’s, Insecure and The Good Place will explode at the expense of her (although not at the expense of Maisel) and I don’t see McKinnon missing if the acting branch is still going to vote for SNL in the guest categories (I mean if they’re going to do that then why won’t they vote for someone they’ve nominated longer than SNL has dominated this category?).

I’m saying this now and imagine Gilpin slips back in just like Milo Ventimiglia got nominated again last year.

Speaking of last year’s Drama returns and surprises possibly showing how Comedy might be this year does anyone else think we’re underestimating Laurie Metcalf or Megan Mullaly. They are both still quite beloved and could very well have been in the top 10 of their categories last time considering they both got nominated in 2018.
