Eugene Levy does the exact same thing in every Schitt’s Creek episode. He’ll most likely be the worst acting nominee this year.

I asked this before, does he actually have the performance? Cause I’ve barely heard anything about him in Ramy and I thought his role was more akin to a guest.

The character isn’t written to be funny at all, which kind of gives me pause predicting him to actually win. However,he performance also reminds me a lot of Ali in Moonlight, which could help? He’s very stoic and calm, and you can feel the impact he has on the main character throughout the season.

You’re right, he’s more of a guest, and I think the show should’ve cut down his episode count for him to dominate in that category. He’s probably safe in a field of 8 though.

IMO, Daniel Levy is such a fantastic actor. His character is so over the top (like so many in the show), but he always delivers the acting in the right “measure”. His never overacting or underacting, always just “acting”. He 100% deserves the Emmy this year, but that’s just my opinion of course.

I wouldn’t exactly call Dan Levy a fantastic actor. He’s a perfect fit for his character, but I seem to recall a Levy even said he doesn’t think of himself as an actor. He kind of makes me think of Phoebe Waller-Bridge in that regard.

Anyway, in another year, maybe not, but given the lineup, I definitely consider his father win worthy. His comedic timing is as good as ever, he’s infinitely endearing, and his work does a good job of subtly grounding the setting.

I would rank the performances in SC (for this season) like this:

    1. Annie Murphy
    2. Dan Levy
    3. Noah Reid
    4. Catherine O’Hara
    5. Jennifer Robertson
    6. Emily Hampshire
    7. Chris Elliot
    8. Eugene Levy

I’m still watching the final season, but I really doubt that Chris Elliot and Jennifer Robertson outperformed Levy.

This is nothing new. Eugene’s char has been overshadowed by his family since Season 2.

Robertson is an absolute delight and makes the most of every minute she’s on screen

Yes! I love her. Sad that she lacked so much of material this year.

He kind of makes me think of Phoebe Waller-Bridge in that regard.

Dan Levy has never approached the emotion, pathos, or nuance regularly achieved by PWB in Fleabag – c’mon now, I know Schitt’s Creek is a nice, funny sitcom but people are really starting to exaggerate its ambitions.

I’m not saying he’s as good as she was, he isn’t. I’m just saying, I think it’s an example of someone who’s not exactly a great actor, but wrote a role that’s perfectly suited to their talents.

I feel like all of the momentum is with Schitt’s Creek this year, so I’m going to predict Levy to prevail in Comedy Lead Actor until something tells me otherwise.

I think Scarlett Johansson is happening in Guest Actress. I think she reminds me of Emma Thompson last year as someone who people weren’t predicting because they were too ‘mainstream’ but I think the fact that like Thompson she had a buzzy film (or two if you include both Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit) released that kept her in the conversation.

I was so tempted to predict Kudrow, Mahaffey and Janney but I don’t think Kudrow is happening unless TGP has an over performance (also didn’t she literally miss for both Grace and Frankie and Avenue 5?). I feel like Mahaffey reminds me of Julian Barrett last year (although tbf I don’t watch Dead to Me so I don’t know how big her role is) and I don’t think Kominsky is happening outside S. Actor and MAYBE Actor.

FYC Emmys : THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL, SUCCESSION AND THE CROWN IN ALL CATEGORIES. Tony Shalhoub ("Maisel"), Cate Blanchett ("Mrs. America"), Matthew Macfadyen, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook ("Succession"), Tracey Ullman ("Mrs. America") and Louis Gossett Jr. ("Watchmen")
