It would look quite desperate if they suddenly went into theatre. They don’t strike me as being able to easily transition to that (or even wanting to), so I doubt they’ll get a Tony win.

True – I don’t think they’re ever likely to write a musical or anything like that, but they could feasibly end up doing a play score at some stage (depending on the play).

Not sure whether to read the music supervision winner choice as a sign that Watchmen might not break John Adams’ record or that we’re underestimating Maisel.

I really thought Watchmen would easily take this.

In response to the user saying that Maisel under-performed because it lost Music and Lyrics I don’t think people (at least on these threads) thought it would win. I mean maybe in the odds but the odds also thought until a few days ago that Aberfan would win Directing whilst people on here didn’t.

And with regard to Costumes whilst I predicted Maisel there’s no reason to say a Costume loss means it’s underperforming when it literally lost that category to The Crown the last time it was eligible.

Anyway looking forward to Saturday because I wonder if Ozark might upset in cinematography. Hopefully it doesn’t because it doesn’t deserve that award over its competition.

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", GLENN CLOSE FOR "HILLBILLY ELEGY", ANTHONY HOPKINS FOR "THE FATHER", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

I think Watchmen can still take the record – I wasn’t expecting it to win Music Supervision but I did have Euphoria taking that so I was still wrong.

I think from its remaining creative arts nominations Watchmen is winning likely all of them – which would give it 9 wins going into the main show. Then it would need 5 of 7 above the line wins (probably Series, Writing, Directing, King and one of the Supporting Actors). It’s a lot of wins and they need a very high hit rate but it does have a good shot.

It’s interesting that The Crown lost casting. I really thought they have it in the bag. It just makes me more certain with predicting Succession for directing, despite the fact that last year when it mattered the most this “trend” was broken.

Also, the scenario of Succession losing Drama Series to Ozark keeps getting more unlikely, which I like.

Anyway I have no doubt Watchmen is beating John Adams record next week. Undeserving IMO, but understandable considering the acclaim around the show. Also it’s nice to witness history.

Ah, finally, here are some big surprises!

I was first surprised with Forky Asks A Question (which I should have realized would be swept up in general Disney goodwill over Robot Chicken), but then shocked at All For Us winning for music and lyrics!

Like many, I also thought that Unorthodox’s main title theme music would win out over Hollywood. Maybe this is long overdue recognition of Nathan Barr from his work on The Americans, a show the Emmys started to heap praise on too late for Barr.

And then in the acting races, I am glad that Maya Rudolph finally won and hoping she gets a quick bookend on Saturday night, but sorry she didn’t pre-record a speech. Big Mouth is long overdue for this recognition and am really hoping it can still win program! And then the short form acting races go to Pops and Peggy!

I’m mostly glad that now “only” 30 categories will be on Saturday night, including 15 prediction center categories! It could be a fun evening, but hopefully someone can make it more entertaining than these mini-ceremonies have been.

You’ve just allayed my fears about Watchmen not beating the record!

I’m predicting King (I don’t want to underestimate her again) but I think I’m switching to Jean Smart in S. Actress too. I think S. Actress is between Smart and Aduba (with Taylor as a spoiler) but I think if Watchmen can have enough support to overcome a vote split in a category that a show can easily split in like Editing and Mrs. America can’t take that category then I think Jean Smart can win S. Actress. I actually think it’s likelier she takes S. Actress than Watchmen taking S. Actor considering how the critics who are the biggest lovers of Watchmen awarded her and decided to award S. Actor not to an actor Watchmen or Succession but to an actor from a show that didn’t do well with critics.

I mean had Smart been competing on the Limited side she probably would have won Critics Choice easily over Collette.

This. I found almost everything about Hollywood bad, but I’m glad Barr got some award recognition (even if it was for the wrong show).

    For Your Consideration:

Best International Feature: Instinct (The Netherlands)
Best Actress: Carice van Houten (Instinct)

“Unorthodox”‘s main title theme music was super-short. It would have been one of the shortest to ever win the Emmy. I figured it would lose for that reason. However, I didn’t anticipate Barr winning, thinking he would split his own vote.

    Not sure what’s worse…

    1) a startup network named Quibi has 2 more Emmys than Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars, The Expanse, Continuum and The Good Place. COMBINED, or

Untrue. Gilmore Girls has 1 Emmy and Buffy, 2.

Unpopular opinion : Whilst it did do quite well in acting last year, I think the only reason Maisel won 8 Emmys was because The Crown was ineligible in categories it had beaten it in the previous year.

    Out of touch lol

Maisel is period music, like Stranger Things.  It is not rocket science to go and pick songs from that time period.  Whereas Euphoria had songs from Randy Newman to Donny Hathaway to Flamingos to a ton of brand new breaking artists that none of the old white male members of the music branch would ever know.

No other show has gotten the attention of the public like the music in Euphoria.   NO ONE outside of the emmys talk (or care) about maisel’s music.

Maisel is a joke.   The fact it won for 3 years in a row is embarrassing.  At least All For Us beat out whatever lame song maisel was up for

For me, Music Supervision is still a new and exciting category, so to see Maisel 3-peat is a bit disappointing. There are so many different directions and choices that voters could be honouring here instead of settling into complacency. Also I’m not over that 1st season where ASP was nominated and won despite not being a credited music supervisor.

    showrunners👏🏻should👏🏻not👏🏻be👏🏻nominated👏🏻for👏🏻below👏🏻the👏🏻line👏🏻
