Trying to figure out what the true shocks/surprises were from tonight. Kind of hard to tell based on the split reactions here.

I know it’s well-meaning, but the constant counting and tabulating of Black and POC winners here feels rather perfunctory. For those who genuinely support having Black and brown creatives get their day in the sun, this isn’t directed at you. But those who count these wins as some sort of performative gesture aren’t really helping the cause as much as they think they are.

    This.

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", GLENN CLOSE FOR "HILLBILLY ELEGY", ANTHONY HOPKINS FOR "THE FATHER", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

What do people make out of The Mandalorian beating Succession for Score? I was predicting the Mandalorian but people seemed shocked when it actually won. I mean, Ludwig Goransson is a hot composer right now after winning an Oscar for that amazing Black Panther score and recently composing for Tenet as well. There was always more of a focus on Succession’s main theme music alone anyways which it won last year.

You mean it told us Bradley Whitford (unfortunately) isn’t repeating?

No, it didn’t, in fact. Bledel was beaten by a Succession actress, and I am only considering Whitford because of a Succession vote-split. I know you don’t want Whitford to win — and he probably won’t — but Bledel doesn’t weaken him.

I’m not so much blaming Jones for her peers’ laziness as I am questioning Jones’ acting in general, which I’ve found to be rather lackluster. I’m sure she’s a wonderful person. And I have no doubt I’ll find something of hers that I truly enjoy one day.

No worries! I thought she was pretty great in 24 (though, she’s a corrupt president there so you might not want to watch that right now…) and some other works but I can understand and respect your opinion based on what you’ve seen so far. And, it still sucks we couldn’t see a new/fresh win here tonight

That sounds delightfully juicy (in fiction only! 😡). I may have to check that out at some point.

The overestimation of Zendaya is hilarious. If Linney loses to anyone, it would be Aniston, not Zendaya.

I surely hope it’s Zendaya if Linney loses to anyone.

Did I say I don’t want Whitford to win?

IMO there’s more passion for Bledel than Whitford and with her losing I don’t see him winning.

I haven’t been looking forward to the Emmys at all. And seeing Cherry Jones win against just reinforces why. YAWN.

And these producers are such scum. Holding the category last for the 2nd year in a row? Inexcusable seeing the director and accountants knews the winners. Why lead us on and tease us the winner would have been someone deserving like Tyson or Rashad?

Wow, this is so messed up. Cherry Jones was totally deserving of that award this year. Just because you wanted someone else to win doesn’t give you the right to bag on her performance.

Right? And there’s Oscar winner Olivia Colman too.

    Network wins:
    HBO, Netflix – 19 each
    Disney+, NBC – 8 each
    ABC, VH1 – 5 each
Amazon Prime, National Geographic – 4 each
    CNN, Fox – 3 each
    Pop TV 2
A&E, Apple Music, BBC America, CBS, CBS All Access, Discovery, History, USA 1 each

Thanks for counting these out. Netflix isn’t doing as bad as I thought. Mostly unscripted though, if memory serves.
