Was Homecoming submitted for music composition? I don’t know how much of it is original to qualify as eligible for submission, but the score was absolutely fantastic. Very complex and was a clear selling point of the show along with the directing.

    For Your Consideration:

Best International Feature: Instinct (The Netherlands)
Best Actress: Carice van Houten (Instinct)

My understanding was that none of it was original.

I’m not surprised. I guess it can be another example of why we need a music supervision category.

I completely forgot to consider Homecoming for music supervision, but I suppose that it is a major contender.

There already is one. Unless you mean in general regardless whether there is one or not.

Yes that’s what I meant. It’s still such a recent category. I’m an advocate for the Oscars doing the same because I think it’s a skill that should be recognised.

No Better Call Saul? Doesn’t it usually get multiple nominations in this category?

All eyes on that Cinematography category. Can’t win Directing without a cinematography nomination. (The Crown won both Directing and cinematography last year).

Game of Thrones has never won cinematography at the Emmys, and it was snubbed last year.

I believe James Hawkinson is winning his 2nd Emmy for The Man In The High Castle this year. His episode (“Excess Animus”) is unbelievably gorgeous, and right up their alley.

Watch out for Succession’s Patrick Capone. He could win it for the season finale, just like House of Cards did in its first season. Very similar glossy shots with fast paced camera angles and cuts, dark lighting, etc.

The cinematography thing seems coincidental to me, given that it has not made a difference for limited series (The Assassination of Gianni VersaceThe Night ManagerOlive Kitteridge), although limited directing has more slots than limited cinematography, unlike how drama cinematography has more slots than drama directing.

As for Better Call Saul, I think that it will get the same treatment as Silicon Valley last year.  Silicon Valley had been triple-nominated the previous three years, then it was dropped entirely last year.  Better Call Saul was been double-nominated for its three previous seasons, but it took last year off and did not compete last time against Game of Thrones, which expanded to three nominations last year.  Better Call Saul has foolishly doubled its submissions and entered four episodes this year.

Why only 5 in “Music Composition Series”, “Music Composition Limited Series” and “Main Title Theme Music”? I know (at least I think) that the rules don’t say that it’s supposed to be 6, but the last 3 years they had 6… Ties ou did the rules change this year?

I had not noticed that ties had become the norm there, but they did actually change the voting there this year to be like the non-music categories, which do not have ties more often than they do.

Good Omens is the only limited series or movie that submitted for fantasy/sci-fi costumes, so it gets the reserved proportional limited/movie slot in that category by default.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s latest season had its worst main title in the show’s run (very likely because of budget cuts). Why do you think it can make it?
