All of these nominees currently have 25 people or less on Goldderby predicting them to win. Who is most likely to pull off a shocker, no matter how unrealistic it may seem?

Comedy Actor- Larry David “Curb Your Enthusiasm” (24 predict a win)

Comedy Supporting Actress- Aidy Bryant “Saturday Night Live” (18 predict a win)

Comedy Directing- Mike Judge “Silicon Valley [Initial Coin Offering]” (Just 7 are predicting a win!)

Comedy Writing- Alec Berg “Silicon Valley [Fifty-One Percent]” (24 predict a win)

Drama Directing- Daniel Sackheim “Ozark [Tonight We Improvise]” (14 predict a win)

Limited Series- Genius: Picasso (20 predict a win)

Movie/Mini Actress- Edie Falco “Law & Order True Crimes: The Menendez Murders” (22 predict a win)

Movie/Mini Directing- Craig Zisk “The Looming Tower [9/11]” (22 predict a win) and Barry Levinson “Paterno” (15 predict a win)

Reality-Competition Program- Top Chef (23 predict a win) and Project Runway (16 predict a win)

Variety Sketch Series- I Love You, America (22 predict a win), Drunk History (22 also predict a win), and Tracey Ullman’s Show (21 predict a win)

I remember Riley saying how after Flint won WGA (panel vote, not popular one though) it had only 6 people predicting it to upset Feud. Can you imagine being one that small a group to call ANY upset? Talk about bragging rights with any awards for life! That was what inspired me to create this thread. I think out of all of these contenders that the most likely to upset right now appears to be Genius: Picasso in Limited Series. It was snubbed for Directing, Writing, Picture Editing, and Casting, but hey that’s what would make it an upset, right? A win for Banderas is highly unlikely but not out of the question and the show already won 2 Emmys for Sound Mixing and Cinematography at Creative Arts, the latter category Versace wasn’t even nominated in and the latter category Godless was snubbed in. Which are the most likely to upset of all these contenders and why?

None of those seems possible to me, if I have to choose one it would be Edie Falco for “Law & Order True Crimes: The Menendez Murders”, because she is in category where MANY of the voters interviewed by Vulture and Indiewire refused to vote, since none of them had see all the nominees. She is an Emmy legend and can win, maybe some people watched this on NBC… But is very unlikely.

Based on who’s last in a category (by odds, not votes) Thompson, Rae and Patinkin could be considered potential upsets.

Also, I find it weird that Kirby is fifth in her category.

It isn’t because nobody cares for Kirby, it is because so many more seem to care about her fellow nominees like Dowd and Strahovski more. THT has won 4 acting Emmys in 2 years, while in that time The Crown has won just 1 for the obvious lock Lithgow. I used to say that Kirby had the best chance of any Crown nominee of winning a major Emmy, but ever since that Casting win, win for Wiley, loss for Goode, and Game of Thrones vote-splitting its way to a shocking (for me) loss for Picture Editing, my thoughts have shifted in that I now believe Daldry is the most likely for Drama Directing.

I was just thinking earlier how Issa Rae perfectly fits that “discovery” narrative that seems to dominate with acting categories under this current voting system.

Edie Falco seems to be the only realistic one.

@sofan Why only Falco? Same reasons as Ivo Stoyanov, just copy and paste what he said, or is there something more you would like to add?

Aidy Bryant seems the most likely out of all of them. She’s had her best year on the show, involved in some of the best memorable sketches of the season and her category seems like the one where there’s most likely for an upset.
