Dark comedy starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini. May 3rd release date.
Awesome trailer. Applegate looks amazing, both in her comedic moments and in her dramatic moments, and Cardellini looks like a blast. I wonder, if this is good, if Applegate could get a Globe nom?April 3, 2019 at 8:49 am #1202838524
This looks absolutely excellent. An 11th hour contender?May 3, 2019 at 9:27 pm #1202879256
In the middle of the third episode right now. This is absolutely wonderful, and it’s the most I’ve been gripped by a show in a while. Applegate and Cardellini are both Emmy-worthy, and the writing is super super good as well. I wouldn’t really characterize it as a comedy, and I hope that Netflix has the foresight to switch it to drama, because it would definitely get in for writing, and either Applegate or Cardellini would have very strong chances as well. No matter its awards chances, this is a very compelling, well-crafted show that I can’t wait to finish.May 4, 2019 at 10:36 pm #1202880169
I’m currently on the last episode, and this show is so good it’s beyond ridiculous. I can understand why Netflix would try to say this is a comedy, but it’s really more of a drama, like Heptapod said. Cardinelli is beyond amazing in this, completely stealing my heart and captivating the entire time. I also need her to win an Emmy for this, whether it be in drama or comedy.May 5, 2019 at 12:52 am #1202880226
Does the show and actors have a better chance of nominations and wins in the comedy or the drama category. I don’t know what the better option is. In comedy beside brosnahan and dreyfuss the other spots are open and in drama Sandra Oh and clarke and nailed.May 5, 2019 at 12:54 am #1202880234
Like how killing eve how both Sandra and Jodie are the lead actresses so is linda and Christina for this show. I hope Linda goes for lead and not supporting.Likewise for Christina. However both Linda and Christina will probably lost to Julie Louis dreyfus for the final season of veep especially with dreyfus cancer narrative she gonna use to have her last winMay 5, 2019 at 6:51 am #1202880438
This was phenomenal and such a great binge watch (I watched in one sitting). It’s like “Grace and Frankie” meets “How to Get Away with Murder” by way of “Big Little Lies.” Applegate and Cardellini were stellar and had amazing chemistry. Can’t wait for the hopeful season 2.May 5, 2019 at 8:02 am #1202880485
Sounds like i need to watch this one!May 5, 2019 at 8:18 am #1202880505
I went through this so fast! Loved it. I too agree that it is definitely more of a drama than a comedy (by way of Killing Eve), but it might be wiser to submit in Comedy since the average episode runtime is 30 minutes and there is less competition in Comedy (or at least less new competition).
Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini are equally amazing!! Both deserve Emmy nominations. However, category confusion (drama or comedy) plus competition from each other might prevent this from happening. I have a hard time believing that they will put Linda in Supporting (No matter what Christina will be placed in Lead). Both actresses are equally the leads. However, if by putting Linda in supporting… one or both actresses gets nominated… it’d be worth it. But it would be fraud.May 5, 2019 at 9:30 am #1202880647
Agree the performances were really special in this series. I think Applegate is the frontrunner and she will win even if Cardellini submits in lead as well. I would truly be shocked if both are not nominated for Emmys in a few months, though. And I’d be okay with Cardelinni winning. I liked her character way more.
The writing is pretty up and down but there are some really solid story choices, where they set up opportunities to take the lazy out of a situation and chose not to. It also felt intentionally subversive at times only to reach the same conclusion in the end. The show only works because Cardelinni’s character is a fucking loon, though. Judy. Her name is Judy. And if Linda didn’t play Judy so sympathetically and convincingly the show would have been difficult to get through without constantly being distracted by the constant suspension of disbelief. There weren’t an overwhelming amount of organic feeling conclusions. But they were still satisfying for the most part. It’s far from perfect but an easy watch if you have the stomach for sadness.
After writing this I realized I am more in Team Linda if it comes down to the two. But I think Christina is also a worthy winner with maybe the better tapes. Not that tapes seem to matter that much anymore.May 5, 2019 at 9:34 am #1202880657
Sounds like this is a must watch. RIP Natasha Lyonne?May 5, 2019 at 9:41 am #1202880664
I loved Russian Doll too… but yeah, I think both of these women are gonna be ahead of her.May 5, 2019 at 9:41 am #1202880668
I haven’t seen this but is it possible it goes drama? For a late contender, the drama categories are a lot more open, and Netflix wouldn’t have to compete with itself as much.May 5, 2019 at 9:45 am #1202880674
I think it will go Comedy because it is thirty minute episodes. I know I am not the first person to say this but they really should switch to 30 minute/60 minutes series categories. Also, I would be okay with them doing away with miniseries at this point. Throw it in with drama and comedy. They should be awarding the best seasons of TV and stop elevating Ryan Murphy to undeserved Emmys. Off topic.
I think it goes comedy even though it would be fine in either.May 5, 2019 at 11:05 am #1202880829
Finished this and I think they should push this in Drama. It’s not a comedy, although Cardellini kills the comedic moments. I don’t think the Emmys will touch this though. This seem more like Globes-fair.
Lyonne’s iconique wig is safe even if its submitted in Comedy (which its not)
