I doubt he would be so mysterious about their identities if it was her. We know she’s in the show, she’s been a big part of it from the start, so I think it’s probably some new people who have a little more of that famous dazzle factor.

Yeah, I was not talking about Valerie Mahaffey, since she had already been in the first season.  She is back for the second too.  The embargo letter just says not to mention “Any not-yet-announced, surprise characters and/or cast members”.

    New Trailer: https://youtu.be/HmU7ylnmn_M

It doesn’t look like the quality has dropped but of course can’t be sure till the reviews are out.

There were more jokes in that trailer than in the entire first season. I’m officially excited.

Look at how they position James Marsden, with him getting his own card before the title in that trailer. Like I said, watch out in supporting actor!

I’m tempted to predict Marsden, I doubt see Anderson, Thompson getting in supporting actor. Maybe Malkovich if Space Force is good. Great trailer, definitely looks more comedic than Season 1.

That Marsden title card surprised me. That is telling a LOT.

This looks like so much fun. I am READY. Jen and Judy are everything and I can’t wait for both Applegate and Cardellini to get in!

Cardellini is not beating Applegate for the second season. That trailer is very good at not revealing anything or anyone new, even with footage from really deep into the season.

The show is a lot of fun on an episodic level.  The banter is great and it is nice just to hang out in this world with these characters, stressful as it is for them.  There have been accusations that this show is a drama with comedic elements. The content here is indeed heavy, but it is this weight that makes the show a comedy.  An actual drama handling such serious subject matter with the levity here would be inappropriate.

I would actually contend that as it goes on, the season leans too heavily into cliched sitcom antics that feel beneath the show.  The failure to maintain the delicate balance that they had previously struck with the tone had me looking through the credits to find an outlet for blame.  I noticed that the second season lacks Abe Sylvia, a co-executive producer with a writing or directing credit on four episodes from the first season, including the finale.

As entertaining as the show is, the plot does not hold up to scrutiny when evaluating the season overall.  Given the limited premise, this second season is a high-wire act that first of all has to justify its very existence.  There are bold moves early on and there come to be a lot of plates spinning, so I was eager to see if they would miraculously be able to pull it all off like they did at the end of last season.  The various storylines end up either just fizzling out and forgotten or they are resolved in the laziest of ways.

This season is fine, but I had hoped that it would be more audacious.  This is not going to be a case like Ozark where it explodes at the Emmys on the basis of improved quality; it really is just going to rise by default in the open comedy field, which is disappointing, hence I am not really considering it for a writing nomination and it should get booted pretty easily from series next time. I would be wondering more about whether my opinion would align with the critics if they had liked the first season more, but this is kind of an Ozark situation in that they were not big fans of the show to begin with, so they are not about to rave it now.

Although I definitely came down on side Applegate, as did all of the awards, my allegiance shifted a bit throughout the first season.  Linda Cardellini gets good material, but I definitely feel like the second season is more of a showcase for Christina Applegate over her than even the first season was.  I might not award her again though, as I am feeling soft on the show overall.  I will keep watching and I will enjoy doing so, but I do feel like the second season made the case that this could have just gone out on top as a great miniseries.  James Marsden never even entered the conversation for me last year, but he surprisingly gets to explore new territory here and I would support a nomination now.  I guess that he is not a menacing presence as he was before, so he gets to have more fun with the material and it is infectious.

So again I can expect only Applegate getting a nom. I might have to switch Cardellini for Issa Rae
I loved season 1 but never thought the writting was this good and I still don’t understand that WGA
