Yep, everything Irishmovielover4ever said I agree with. Carpenter is fantastic and looks to have an even meatier season, if possible, with Deb’s downward spiral. Rampling looks to be a good addition to the series’ list of excellent special guest stars. And Hall remains ever on the top of his game.June 30, 2013 at 9:14 pm #273399
jeesus!! Best premier in years. Already works as fantastic tapes for Hall and Carpenter, And Rampling seems to be a very good addition so far. Loved this episode.

Someone please give Carpenter her emmy nomination!!July 1, 2013 at 7:03 am #273401
It is an absolute SHAME that Carpenter has never been nominated for an Emmy.July 1, 2013 at 7:50 am #273402
Didn’t love this nor did I hate it. I am glad we’re heading towards a finish, though. I’m not sure I love the inclusion of the psychologist.July 1, 2013 at 8:24 am #273403
Debra was definitely the most interesting thing about the episode. Another-person-that-knows-Dexters-secret isn’t a captivating storyline to me yet, but we’ll see where it goes.July 1, 2013 at 3:25 pm #273404
I missed the news about Rampling joining, it was a bit shocking to see her here, not the type of actress you would expect on Dexter. She did great job here and looks to have even better material in the following episodes.
The Debra storyline already seems a bit annoying with the typical drug and alcohol scenes, hating on Dexter, people try to help her and she doesn’t want to, she’ll probably end up insulting Quinn, Masuka and Batista along the way, with the apology scene to follow. It makes sense that she would take this route, but I hope they make it quick and don’t drag it out.
I don’t mind having another person knowing about Dexter, I think it’s great that it’s being done this way.
Harrison got old fast, that isn’t the same kid I think and neither he or Harrison couldn’t have gotten so big since last season either.July 1, 2013 at 3:40 pm #273405

Sure is!!!! I’ve been saying this for years.

Jennifer Carpenter is terrific as usual. How she hasn’t got any awards attention in seven years is really embarrassing and kinda depressing too.July 1, 2013 at 7:38 pm #273407
thats because her character improved on last 2 seasons as has her acting.July 1, 2013 at 11:56 pm #273408
Why did Showtime not send the “previously on” segment out to all voters
as an FYC for Jennifer Carpenter? They would not be able to not
nominate her after watching that.
I like the story direction that
this season is taking, but this season premiere was not sharply
executed. The biggest problem was actually the directing, which is
strange, given that it was done by Keith Gordon who has directed some of
the show’s best episodes. Scenes were overly staged and scripted and I
hate to say it, but Jennifer Carpenter overacted, whereas she was
perfect throughout last season. This makes it my least favourite season
premiere since the third season, with that one and this one being the
only two subpar episodes from the eight.
Why has Quinn aged a decade in just a year? Why does he look drastically different every season?
Too bad that they recast Harrison.
for Aimee Garcia getting series regular billing; too bad her role has
been reduced/shifted to just being extremely excited about having sex
with Quinn.July 2, 2013 at 1:53 am #273409

Please. Let’s not pretend that she suddenly became good the last two seasons. She’s been terrific all along.July 2, 2013 at 11:16 am #273410
I’ve been mentioning Quinn on comments for the last two years. He looks pretty bad and yes, about ten years older than when he started. It’s as if he lost a lot of weight but only on his face.July 2, 2013 at 11:28 am #273411
Quinn started chubby, then lost a ton of weight and his hair is now thinning.July 2, 2013 at 1:12 pm #273412
I know I am alone but I don’t find Carpenter’s particular brand of acting good. I think she is fine in this role but my opinion of her as an actress is not all that dissimilar to Emmy Rossum’s acting, which I believe is equally toted beyond warrant around here. Carpenter gets to do all the weepy scenes now but they come off more hammy than she seems like she’s genuinely emoting. Cool, she can make the tears come but her affect, her tone, all of these things still feel off to me. I am totally okay with her never having been nominated and don’t even view it as the crime others do. Hardly even an oversight.
And people forget that for the first few seasons a lot of people found her character extremely annoying.
