Spacey’s hammy Foghorn Leghorn impersonation was one of the worst performances to ever be nominated. It received the exact number of Emmys that it deserved.
I would’ve been fine with Wright winning in 2016 since I think Maslany’s performance is overvalued, but her not winning isn’t the end of the world. There are better performances that never sniffed a nomination, let alone a win.November 5, 2017 at 7:07 pm #1202402770
Neither should have even been nominated apart from season one (2013) when there was weaker competition in the lead acting categories.November 5, 2017 at 7:08 pm #1202402772
I would’ve supported a Wright win for season 2, 3, or 4. But I would not have wanted her to win more than one. I guess the ideal win would be for season 2 which she actually would’ve won had she submitted the episode where she ****4 YEAR OLD SPOILER**** admitted to havinG an abortion on live TV. Especially since Julianna Marguiles already had an Emmy at that point. Spacey on the other hand never deserved a win for his performance in my opinion and should not have been nominated for season 3 or 5 in my opinion. Dang the more I think of it season 2 would’ve been the perfect time to reward Wright so that Davis and Maslany both would’ve still had Emmys.
Btw my favorite season of this show has been season 4 which was successful since it had the most focused storyline and since Frank finally had a worth adversary in Claire. My least favorite were season 3 and 5 which Wright saved.November 5, 2017 at 8:02 pm #1202402791
Based on the competition his first year nominated, I would’ve not mind a win for Spacey. The performance was there for it to be deserved. While Wright has always been solid, she’s never been one I would’ve nominated for her role. Maybe that will change when she’s the lead for the final season. I will give her that she’s never looked better especially early years Claire.
I think she could win the same way Jon Cryer won his lead Emmy. Sure it was a different system, but ppl enjoy that performance and she’ll be going into the race (assuming this final season will be eligible next year) with a narrative and benefitting from the popular vote.November 5, 2017 at 8:09 pm #1202402795
Robin Wright should have won in 2016.
Kevin Spacey was bad at submitting tapes and was never the best drama actor of the year, but it is not like the Emmys consistently award the best drama actor of the year anyway, so I would have been fine with him picking up an Emmy for this iconic role. He was exceedingly hammy in the early goings, but I thought that he provided just the right amount of camp later.November 5, 2017 at 9:58 pm #1202402865
I think Kevin could have won for S1 and Robin for S2, though I thought Julianna was amazing in S5 of The Good Wife, so it’s tough.November 6, 2017 at 7:55 am #1202403219
i think they both deserved a win …

Wright deserved all her nominations. Spacey from seasons 1 to 4. And Wright should have won for season 4November 6, 2017 at 10:30 pm #1202403977
They both deserved one win, although Wright really should’ve been the show’s only major nomination for the last two seasons.
I also think that if they were still using the system that gave Jon Cryer a best actor win then Wright would have a serious chance for the last season.November 6, 2017 at 10:51 pm #1202403990
Jon Cryer won solely off tape. He got his nomination off sympathy though.November 7, 2017 at 10:20 am #1202404449
Yes. They both should’ve won. Robin Wright should’ve won twice by now (seasons 2 and 4). Spacey for season 1.
I really hope they continue with the show with Wright as the centerpiece (and Spacey gone), so she can finally win.November 7, 2017 at 11:07 am #1202404471
Spacey’s character and performance have both been borderline terrible to me from the get-go.
I could have supported Wright winning for season 2… in supporting. I didn’t watch season 4 beyond Spacey’s and Wright’s submissions. But I thought Russell had the best submission that year, not that submissions have mattered these last couple years.
So, while you can make an argument throughout the seasons, neither truly stood out to me any year.November 9, 2017 at 3:47 pm #1202406344
Kevin Spacey should have never even been nominated. The accent is as ludicris as Kevin Costner in Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves or any Angelina Jolie film where she uses a fake British accent. His accent on HOC is closer to Foghorn Leghorn then an actual person, the uppercrust in the South haven’t talked like that in 80-100 years.
