I have been watching a few reruns on Saturday night and it does hold up. There are some issues that were raised on the show that apply to today.

China Beach I know is on DVD, but not on streaming. I’m sure it has to do with music rights. It took a long time for it to end up on DVD at all. Streaming I guess would be a different set of contracts for music. I did used to have the China Beach soundtrack CD. I loved that CD so dang much.

I think it’s the only show that filled all available spots in any Emmy acting category:

Supporting Actor in a Drama Series 1982:
Tauren Blacque as Det. Neal Washington
Michael Conrad as Sgt. Phil Esterhaus* (also won in 1981)
Charles Heid as Officer Andy Renko
Michael Warren as Officer Bobby Hill
Bruce Weitz as Det. Mick Belker

For that alone I think it’s worth checking out if you have an opportunity.

Roots did it first in the Lead Actor category actually.
