I’ve just finished the second season and loved it. Can’t think of a funnier and more poignant show recently which not only is generous to its target audience of teens but also relevant for adults. It really developed the stengths of the first season I thought.

As a fan of Fleabag I couldn’t help noticing how the first season was almost completely shut out by the awards circuit…and was happy to see the second lavishly embraced. I can’t help hoping and wishing Sex Education has the same fate. There are a number of performances at least which I think are deserving. Can you see it happening? And if so who would you like to see receive nominations?

    FYC:

Antonio Banderas and Asier Etxeandia, Dolor y Gloria (Best Actor/Supporting Actor)
Emily Beecham, Little Joe (Best Actress)
Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren, The Good Liar (Best Actor/Actress)

It won’t be taken seriously because it’s about teenagers.

The show certainly deserved recognition in season one, and perhaps even more so in season two. I won’t hold my breath. Asa Butterfield and Ncuti Gatwa were better this year than season two. Emma Mackey had a little less to do, but was still stellar. She was top 3 in Supporting Actress for me last year. Gillian Anderson also had more to do this season for sure. The ensemble is just outstanding and would be worthy of a SAG Ensemble nom. Writing and directing are no-brainers as well, but unfortunately, I don’t see any nominations happening at all. While the show is a big hit, somewhat surprisingly, I find that the conversation seems to center around younger fans and not fans of all ages. Maybe we’ll be surprised and critics will rally around the show this summer, but outside of a surprise Anderson nomination, I don’t see it happening as well deserved as it would be.
