Seeing as threads seem to be being closed at a hard five hundred now and we got through the last one in under two weeks, I figured that now might be a good time to split by genre instead of getting into the double-digits in terms of thread parts.

Is Succession locked for the win at this point or can we see an upset?

I’d say Succession is fairly close to locked. I suppose we could see an upset, but it’s got almost everything going right for it, and nothing else really seems strong enough.

    Westworld: mediocre reaction
Ozark: needs to REALLY wow to overcome its history of mixed reaction
Stranger Things: premiered a while ago, not seen the best great season
Big Little Lies: disappointing season, bad controversy, long time since premiere
The Outsider: mixed reactions, not popular enough
Better Call Saul: its first-ever win won’t be Series, not popular enough
This Is Us: virtually no support outside actors
The Morning Show: mixed reactions, again mostly just love from actors
The Handmaid’s Tale: not the same quality level as season one, almost complete shutout from wins after a sweep which is not a good sign
Killing Eve: unless it gets back the quality and acclaim of season one (and without PWB it won’t) then it’ll be lucky to be nominated

And everything else is a non-factor.

Its only real competition is The Crown, and with the SAG Ensemble win a very strong case could be made for it, but ultimately it doesn’t have the same passion that Succession does. I wouldn’t be shocked if The Crown won, but I feel if voters give Colman the trophy then they’ll feel as if they’ve rewarded the show enough. This season just didn’t feel like it NEEDED to be rewarded the way Succession did. And even though it was nominated last year, it still does kind of feel like the cool new kid on the block, which was what really helped Fleabag last time around.

From everything that has been released so far, I would say yes. Ozark’s season hasn’t aired yet, so if that turns out to be phenomenal then maybe it’ll have a shot.

In terms of guest actress, I sincerely hope Jane Lapotaire and Geraldine Chaplin are recognized for their work on The Crown. Chaplin’s facial expression at the end of “Dangling Man” is unforgettable. I keep forgetting Clea Duvall is eligible for Handmaid’s, but if voters took to Bledel’s storyline, then Duvall might be an automatic nomination, though I doubt it.

Hopefully the Supporting Actress nominees are: Thandie Newton (Westworld) Julia Garner (Ozark) Yvonne Strahovski (The Handmaid’s Tale) Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale) Laura Dern (Big Little Lies) Helena Bonham Carter (The Crown) Meryl Streep (Big Little Lies)

It’s been my prediction since the very beginning that this will end up being our lineup.

Emmys FYC - "Unbelievable" and "The Handmaid's Tale" in all categories; Viola Davis in Best Drama Actress for the final season of "HTGAWM;" "Ozark:" Drama Series, Laura Linney (Best Actress) and Julia Garner (Best Supporting Actress)

FYC Goldderby Awards : MAURA TIERNEY AND DOMINIC WEST FOR THE FINAL SEASON OF THE AFFAIR

Could we see all four Big Little Lies supporting actresses get in and Witherspoon, Kidman, Comer and Oh getting into lead? If voters can check off as many actors as they want, I can’t see much difficulty being in Oh, Witherspoon, Woodley and Kravitz’s way. Hypothetically speaking.

Woodley didn’t have enough material to properly shine and I fear Kravitz’s work won’t be as respected as it should be. I’m not even sure Dern and Streep are locks – maybe the latter, but not the former, who isn’t even in my predictions, which says a lot given how much I stan here.

The thing is, I don’t. Dern, Strahovski and Dowd are all on the same level for me; no one is above the other. I just have a feeling Dern will miss, which the same type of feeling I’ve had before but didn’t take seriously, to my ultimate disadvantage. And tbh, that’s only if it’s a six-actor lineup; I still believe it will be 7, in which case Dern would make it (in my predictions). Actually, based on what’s been seen I’d call Shalhoub the biggest lock of the year. He’s by far the most acclaimed performance in an empty category, in a show loved by actors, and he repeated at SAG despite strong competition and the fact that he’s in a supporting role.
